Hi! I saw my birth story forwarded to here, but this is my first official posting in the first year forum. My name is Helen, I have been married for almost 16 years (it will be 16 years on my anniversary, February 26), I have 2 daughters ages 11 and 13 and my twins Jack and Lilly born Feb. 13.

I am just writing a quick note... I want to eat and shower before the twins eat again (I am nursing them and very proud of myself for doing it!) I am taking the twins to the doctor today, their pediatritian for a check up and my ob/gyn for Jack's circumcision. I am very scared about it. He is my first son so I have never had to do this before. Did everyone have their son circumcised? I would really like to hear from a bunch of people that it is nothing... he will be over it in a few days...

Thanks for listening and I look forward to getting to know everyone in first year... I loved being involved in expecting.

    Helen

Hi and [IMG] Congratulations on the birth of your twins!
When we had our son circumcised it was about an hour before we brought him home from the hospital. It really is not a big deal. The only thing I wish someone would have told me was the it seems to kind of hurt to pee the first couple times after it is done, but after that DS didn't even seem to notice. I think it bothered me more than it did him and that's only because I could see it I think.

Hi Helen! Welcome to the FY! (Your twins were born the same day as my nephew....I guess I didn't notice that in your birth story).

I had both of my sons circumcised (it was done in the hospital before we came home). It really wasn't bad. They anesthetized (sp?) them about an hour before and then did the circ in the nursery. The first day you see some blood. The care is pretty easy and it heals pretty quickly. I didn't get any more than the normal complaints when changing diapers.

    Hi,

Thomas was circumsized the day after he was born. Just make sure to keep it clean and put ALOT of petroleum jelly on gauze pads and put them over his pee pee before putting the diaper on. If you dont put enough petroleum jelly on it the gauze will stick when you go to take it off OUCH. He healed very well and was almost completely healed after a week of so.

Oh and whatever you do make sure when you are cleaning the belly button with alcohol DO NOT GET ANY ON HIS PEE PEE.

Good luck everything will be just fine.

Hey Helen, [IMG] to FY Board! This question was meant for me!!!!I have had a lot of experience with this one [IMG]

The circumcision should clear up within two weeks. You need to put vasoline on it every time you change his diaper and put the gauze over that before you put a new diaper. It will look awful and you will feel bad, so be prepared! But it will better quickly. Good luck!

I cried and fretted about this for days before delivery. You should request anethestic. Many doctors do not provide this as part of their standard routine. I had to ask for it and be specific about what I wanted. I insisted on two different kinds of anethestic plus tylenol for after. This seemed to help a lot. We were told to keep it covered with A&D ointment until it healed. This took about 2 weeks. They didn't seem to be in much pain afterward.

Hello and welcome to the FY forum, I am so glad to see you here [IMG]

I had both of my boys circumsized while we were still in the hospital. It was a simple procedure, and they brought the boys right to my room when they were down. They gave them tylenol and they did just fine, not overly fussy or anything. It healed up really quickly.

I look forward to seeing you around more often. Congratulations on the birth of your little miracles.

My husband LOADED the petroleum jelly on the boys after their circum. When the ped. came and checked them in the hospital, during the exam he took their diaper off and laughed and said, "Dad must have done this". He actaully said it was good so my advice is lots of petroleum jelly . My boys were a little fussy but it was all so new to us that we did not really even assoicate it with the circum. They did not seem in pain to us.

    Hi Helen
I had my son circumcised and I think it was worse on me than it was on him. He slept thru the procedure in the dr's office and slept the rest of the day at home. He did not cry or seem to be in any pain at all which was a relief I however was exhausted from the worrying and fear I had hurt him. But it healed nicely in three days when we went for our checkup with the dr and he has had no problems since.
Good luck and yes lots and lots of vaseline helps

[IMG] Try not to fret, just use plenty of Vaseline! Sometimes their foreskin will reattach but if you really load him up with the Vaseline, thats less likely to happen.

Welcome to the FY Helen. Glad the babies are doing well. Like pp said, he will be just fine. Definitely worse for mommy than baby. Load up on the Vaseline, and even after it has healed make sure to pull the skin away from the tip daily to prevent reattachment. Good luck! [IMG]

Thanks, guys! It went very quickly in the doctor's office. He told me what would be done, and my husband and I waited in another room. It was over in about 2 minutes. We kept the gauze on his penis for the rest of the day, and have globbed on the vaseline since then. It looks kind of red, so I still make my husband change him. Hopefully it will be all healed in a few days!

    HI,

congrats on the birth of the twins. We had both of our sons circumcized and all went well. Ours was done in the hospital, though, so it was all jsut part of the first few days of life for them.

They do give a topical anesthetic so it should be painless. You have to place vaseline on a gauze pad for a week or so tho, once it's done. Shouldn't be a problem.

    Cheers,

    Teri D
