i am at 18 weeks now and my feet are sweeling sooo bad! i have been wearing sweat pants and they are the ones with the slightly tight hold at the bottom of the pant legs. could this be the culprit or is it just the pregnancy??? the swelling goes down before morning but comes back really fast. i have been trying to keep my feet up but when you have a 3 year old running around wanting this or that it is really hard to sit still. anyone with any suggestions???

    lots of love!

  2. I wear oversized shirts and no pants...HA!! [IMG] I encourage my (almost) 3 year old daughter to watch TV with me, color, bring her toys to me etc all on the couch. It isnt easy for her to see me like this, because I am normally so much more active, but I figure I will make it up to her post partum. I too swell up terribly if I am up too much so I have to keep it limited...stupid procardia...

I would definitely eliminate any wardrobe items that are tight or binding - just cut the cuffs off those sweatpants (besides, a wider leg helps visually balance the proportion of our growing hips and bellies!)

And, for the swelling -keep your feet elevated as much as possible, and drink as much water as possible. it seems counter=intuitive, but the better hydrated you are the more the water passes through your system. The best is to lie on your left side; that's probably why you see the swelling down when you get up first thing in the morning. I'm sure it's tough w/a three year old: maybe you can play 'mommy's napping' together?

You also might try some compression hose, they make knee high ones too, they made me itchy but really helped!

Keep your feet up when you can and definitely try to drink more water than you think you can stomach. The more you drink the less you will retain! I agree, stick to loose clothing.

If you start getting headaches, see stars or anything and if your swelling gets where it 'pits', then it would probably be best to call your doc. You are still kind of early for major swelling issues, if your swelling is accompanied with any other symptoms you might require some medical attention.

Argh, I thought I was doing pretty well in the swelling department until just the last few days. Now, my fingers are starting to be a little achy when I getup in the morning and bend them. I hope it is not a foreshadowing of sausage fingers for the next month or more. My ankles are doing ok but I'm gonna start drinking more water. Not sure if I can possibly go the the bathroom anymore, but I'll try!

    This to will pass...
