My eventful day yesterday

We took our 5 year old son to an indoor water park yesterday for his surprise birthday celebration.

I was having on and off menstrual cramps. I've had menstrual cramps throughout the pregnancy but nothing that came and went. Just kind of lingered like maybe stretching..etc

So yesterday I was feeling them and then my tummy would tighten up.

I called my OB after we left and they wanted me to come right in to hook me up to the NST to see what was going on. Turns out I was having contractions every 3 minutes. They immediately sent me to l&d. I got hooked up and they did a FFN test and it came back negative. They also checked me and I was only fingertip dilated. The contractions were still coming and getting a little more intense but not closer together. They checked my urine and I was dehydrated so they decided to give me an IV to hydrate me, procardia pill to help with the contractions and also the first shot of steroids.

After 4 hours the contractions became further apart and there was no cervical change. I was sent home with procardia every 6 hours and I go in tonight for my second shot of steroids.

Then I go back to the OB tomorrow for my follow-up.

I'm actually glad this happened because I was so afraid of not knowing what a contraction felt like. I've never experienced them before so now I know. AND just having the steroids makes me feel so much better. I'm almost 33 weeks which is great but still too early and I feel like the steroids will give the girls a leg up if anything were to happen before our schedule c/s on Dec 26th.

Anyway- just wanted to post. I know that I read alot and I'm sure others do too and love to hear people's experiences to gain some knowledge and insight on things that can happen ...etc

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Sounds like before you know you know you will be holding your babies. Day after Christmas babies, that is wonderful :)

Take it easy and rest as much as you can.

glad to hear that the babies didnt make thiier grand entrance yet. the steroid shots will def help, take it easy and try top stay off ur feet, drink lots of water because being dehydrated can bring on contractions easier than anything else. good luck and cant wait to hear the birth story lets hope it wont be for another couple weeks. xmas babies would be awesome ;-)

WOW - I am so glad you posted, because it helps me try and grasp the wide range of what early contractions , trouble, etc might feel like. With my first, my contractions were obvious and strong, there was no question what was happening, but I"ve been very very nervous with the twins, thinking I might miss an early sign and therefore miss some sort of early intervention. GREAT outcome for you, and congrats on making it to 33 weeks!

And by the way - how the HECK did you ever have the energy to go to a waterpark at 33 weeks?:bow2:

Thank you! DH went as well. I pretty much just hung out in the pool or lounged around on the side of the pool. It's an indoor park and there were literally 20 people that at the busiest time of the day. It was a blast and we picked the perfect day for it.
