OK, I am so stressed out right now... As some of you know, my DS was diagnosed with Pneumonia and he is doing better and better everyday. I am so afraid, however, because he is not eating much at all (2-3 ounces per feeding)...the doctors said that he is ok, not dehydrated, but he is the same weight for over a month now. He is so skinny and I am feeling scared and I just don't want to keep bugging my doctor. I am afraid he is not thriving...now, maybe I am making all of the up in my head, but it is making me on the verge of tears every time I try to feed him, he does not want to eat since he has been sick. He had some swallowing issues when he was two weeks old and lost a pound then...I feel like I am being hit with another worry about him. I worry about him a lot and I KNOW it is unfair to him and to me...and...to his sister... So, I wanted to vent and share my feelings because I feel alone. I don't know what the (%$)($ to do right now...Should I call my doctor...AGAIN??? Would you be worried? Thanks so much, again, everyone! jen
I am so sorry that you are having such a difficult time. I don't think that it is wrong to call the Dr. if you are worried. Sometimes you just need the peace of mind. I have worried a lot about my DD as well, she does not like to nurse much and is at least three pounds smaller then her brother, but she is still growing, little by little, and I bet once your DS gets rid of this pneumonia, you will be able to see a difference in his feeding. Bug your doctor...thats what they are there for. Sometimes I call and just talk to a nurse, which can alleviate a lot of stress and worry for me. I will be praying for your little man.
I am so sorry to hear you are having so many worries. I would be worried as well. Can you maybe give him the vitamin drops, for some extra nutrients? (Unless you already do.). Just wanted to give you all MANY :hug99:
Jen, In my experience with my kids, when they are completely feeling better, they really start packing the food in to make up for the lost calories while they were sick. I know it's hard not to worry. I would call the doc, even if it's just to ease your mind. And you should not feel bad about calling them! :hug99:
Just so you don't feel like you are the only one...I call my doctor ALL THE TIME. I swear the ladies at the office know me by voice. We've just had a lot of sickness since the winter time that we are still recovering from. Jonah just got diagnosed with asthma (which is probably part of the reason he's been sick so much). I would definitely call the doctor. And, based on my recent experience with Jonah and his wheezing/coughing issues, have you considered having DS see a pulmonologist (a lung specialist)? My ped did not want to give me the referral (even after Jonah had RSV 3 times...2 times out of the RSV season). I had to really push him to get the referral. Turns out that he has asthma. And based on a chest xray (that my ped reviewed and said was clear), Jonah actually was either developing or just getting over pneumonia. He had a spot on the xray that the ped either didn't see or didn't think was a big deal. Anyway, long story short, I think you should call if you're worried. And, if you have not pursued a specialist consult, I would mention it when you call. Not sure what kind of insurance you have, but if it covers the initial visit with the specialist, it wouldn't hurt to go. It's literally a review of the chest xray and listening to his breathing. Nothing invasive. Just a thought. Having breathing issues is scary stuff. And, last thing...as for food, I have found my guys cut back some when they are sick and pick back up when they are feeling better. Sorry you are worried and he is sick. Shannon
You should never feel bad about calling the doctor if you are worried, even if it is for your own peace of mind. I hope he feels better soon & then, like Becky said, he will probably start gulping the food down to make up for it. :hug99:
Thank you, Everyone. I did call the doctor and we are seeing her tomorrow, just to ease my mind. Thank you so much. I will let you know what happens.

Mine never want to eat when they are sick, but boy do they make up for it when they feel better. My Ped. told me not to worry, because formula (or BM) is like their "steak and potatos" to us and we don't really feel like eating that when sick. Just make sure he stays hydrated and it will run its course. Sure, I would bug the heck out of the Ped.....that's what you pay them for, right? Hope he is feeling better soon. Carrie
