Woke up this AM and thought it would be a wonderfully uneventful day. The grandparents were going to watch the twins & my hubby & I were going to take our 2 yr-old to the river with some friends. At about 11:30 my hubby walks in looking for our son. He says that he turned his back for a minute and Meyer was gone. He says he's going to check around the house & he'll be right back. After about 10 mins of not hearing anything I buckle the twins in their seats and walk outside. I hear my hubby calling for our son...no answer. He says that he has walked all around the house, up our gravel drive and can't find him. We live in the country, surrounded by several 100 acres with only a few houses around. After calling him myself and him not answering I start to panic...I start screaming for him..nothing! Then it hits me and I just start crying, feeling sick and the most scared I've ever been in my life. This is my 2 yr-old son, my heart! I run to our neighbors house to check their pool and get some help searching the woods. They call our neighbors several miles away and we get horses saddled up and a few folks on golf carts riding the properties around us looking. I call the sheriffs dept to report him missing and they come out with 4 deputies. Its been 1 hr now since he's been gone and there is no sign of him anywhere. Our only hope is that our dog that is missing too is with him somewhere. Once the sheriffs have searched the house and everyones cars they call the volunteer fire dept & the search and rescue dog team. 1 hour and 30 mins has passed by now. My dad shows up, my mom, several other family members and friends all ready to search the woods. The sheriffs tell us that we can't continue to search and that everyone in the woods needs to come out or the dogs will have a hard time picking up my son's scent...he's calling everyone back on his PA. Its all running through my mind...what are they doing, no we can't stop..if we stop we get farther away from him..we are all there waiting, falling apart..everyone but my husband. I have no clue where my husband is...2 hours has passed now and I'm feeling more desparate, lost, confused and I keep crying every time someone talks to me. 2 hr 30 or so mins later we hear my husband yelling...I've found him. I didn't know whether to hug him or hit him but I knew I wanted to get my hands on my son and hug him tight. It turns out that my son wondered 2 to 3 miles off into the woods...down an old logging road. My husband, the hunter, ended up tracking my son! Yes, tracking him like a real life tracker..how crazy is that??!!??!! My husband siad when he found Meyer that Meyer just looked at him and said 'Daddy, look at my bugs'...he was holding his yellow ball bat, sitting with his dog, killing bugs off rocks...once my hubby picked him up & gave him a squeeze he asked Daddy to carry him to see Mommy.

This was the worst and best Mother's Day of my life. It could have been so much worse but the Lord saw us through it. My little boy will definietely be sleeping with Mommy tonight!

Glad to hear he was found unharmed. It is a reminder to all people how fast kids can get away from you. I hope today proves to be much less eventful.

Wow, thank goodness he was found! That is amazing your husband tracked him. He really went far too! And it never even occurred tohim that he was "lost." My goodness. What a faithful dog to stay by his side. I cannot imagine your fear and I am so happy you found him.

So glad it all ended well! How horrifying!

I've glimpsed that terror, when just for a moment losing sight of one, and then unable to find them for a minute, at the park, etc. The heart in the throat, running around calling their names...I can only imagine how you must have been feeling and the scenarios that were playing through your head.
