My dentist made me do it...

We had it all worked out. We talked it over and decided we wouldn't ruin them by getting a spoiler gift this year and so the boys are getting a Power Wheels car for Christmas. They'll get tons of use out of it over the next few years because when they outgrow the circles in the yard stage, we have acres to explore. Then, our dentist goes and tells DH that he's moving soon and has one of those big, wooden play gyms that won't fit at the new house and he needs to sell it. They can't leave it behind because they've been renting a house during construction. We went today to look at it and it's in pristine shape (heck, it's less than 2 years old) and high quality (Rainbow)... and he's asking less than 1/3 of what he paid. So now the boys are getting a swingset AND a Power Wheels. What the heck could we do, though -- you can't pass up a fantastic deal on something we were going to buy next year anyway.

Anyone else find themselves completely busting their budget? We're talking more than five times what we said we were going to spend

We're certainly busting our planned budget...but I wouldn't say by five times. (Unless you take into account what Gma has bought them)

If I were in your place (and knew I'd be staying in the same house for 5 years) I'd jump at the chance to buy a great Rainbow system at that price too.

Your boys will get so much use out of it and hopefully run themselves so ragged that they'll get their fix and be too tired to use your house as a jungle gym when they come back inside. (I know, I know, 'yeah, right'....just trying to send you some good vibes). ;)

I agree, it is a great deal!

BTW, this is completely off topic, but, SweetpeaG, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy the pics of your boys that you have on your tickers. They just look so sweet and innocent. Like little painted cherubs!

    Aw...thanks.

If you only knew what busy, little monkey-demons they were you'd appreciate the illusion of innocence all the more!

We have a play system in our backyard and our boys already loved it this summer. They learned to climb up a ladder and go down the slide by themselves. It was so worth it to buy the play system. You will have years and years of play out of it. And the power wheels sounds awesome.

I stayed pretty close this year.....but its the last year I'll probably be able to get away with it. Next year they will be waiting for Santa.

I would've gone for the play gym too, they are expensive but probably the best toy investment you could make! We try to stick to a Christmas budget for the girls, but have gone over both years. ;)
