I got a call from my husband's co-worker today telling me he had been taken to the ER. Apparently he passed out, and while unconcious vommited several times before he was found in the stairwell. He was super disoriented and fuzzy, and all he remembers is waking up to the paramedics standing over him. By the time I got to the ER he was lucid again but was the most alarming shade of red/purple. His blood pressure was like 70/30 so they gave him an adrenaline shot. It was so scary. They still have no idea what happened to him, but their best guess is that he had an allergic reaction to something ( what that something is they have no idea..he didn't have anything out of the ordinary). After hours and hours they sent us home saying "if it happens again, call 911". Gee, thanks. that sure makes me feel better! I told my dh, "I'm the one who is supposed to go to the hospital next--not you!" We're home now and he is resting and I'm keeping a good eye on him! Thanks for letting me share with you!

How very scary for you both! I'm glad he's okay now. Did they even make any suggestions as to what the allergen could have been? That seems so strange. Hopefully that will NEVER happen again! [IMG]

Thanks so much ladies. He's doing much better today..in fact he's at the dr. right now getting some more lab work done to see if they can determine what the reaction was to. I'll let you know how it goes!

Something similiar just happened to my mother. It turned out to be an inner ear problem. She has had a couple spells before. If they don't find anything in the blood work, ask his doctor about the inner ear.

But you described exactly what she went through with the drop in BP, passing out, vomiting. If she hadn't been teaching at the time of the episode, she could have easily been found somewhere else too.

I am sorry this happened. Hopefully, they will find the answer soon.

Oh, that does sound scary. If it turn out that it was an allergic reaction, please make sure that he is prescribed 2 epi pens by his doctor. If given at the first sign of reaction, they can prevent it from getting so bad.

Unfortunately, I have lots of experience with life threatening allergies, so feel free to contact me if that's what it turns out to be and you have any questions.

I just wanted to let you know what the DR said about my husband's passing out the other day. He said it may have been a reaction to ibuprofen. Ok....but he's been taking ibuprofen forever. It seems weird that he would suddenly have a reaction. So, basically the doc said stop taking everything. No caffeine, no advil, nothing. Just start from scratch. Not very halpful, but it's the only thing we've got to go on! Thanks for all the well-wishing!
