MIL lives far away, and wants to see the babies but is too lazy to get on a plane and come visit, even though she could afford to fly first class in total comfort if she wanted. So of course she wants us to come visit her. NOT possible right now. Travel messes me up (I always get sick, and am very sensitive to jet lag), and I'm sure it would be pure misery for the babies too.

Her latest idea for a solution? DH could take ONE of the babies and go visit her, leaving me home with the other baby. And then he could come back, pick up baby #2, and take that one to visit. (And we are talking about transatlantic flights here.)

I'd probably find it funny if I weren't absolutely blinded with furious mama-bear RAGE at the very idea of separating babies that young from their mommy for at least a week at a time! Especially when we're still nursing too. I couldn't bear to be separated from them for longer than a good coffee break or trip to the gym, and it would break their little hearts to be separated from me. I want to cry just thinking about it.

Needless to say, it is NOT going to happen. DH did not even consider it an option for half a second. But GAH, how the @#$% can people be so @#$%ing STUPID???!!!

And if anyone should understand moms being attached to babies, it's her: DH is in his early 40's, and MIL still expects him to call her (transatlantic phone call) when he arrives safely in another state, like if he's driving from RI to VT.

:shok: Okay, I'm pulling out the  card on this one! :fool: I'm so sorry that she is even saying out loud these insane ideas! I'm happy your hubby sees how insane this is, and isn't even putting a second thought to it. :hug99:

Are you friggin kidding me?!!!! She can NOT be serious. I honestly don't even know how you respond to such an absurd suggestion. Thank goodness she lives so far away. And good for you and DH for not even entertaining the thought! No offense MIL, but what a freak!

Wow, she is why mil's get a bad rap... I can't imagine why she would think that's a good idea- it's absolutely insane! I'm glad your dh is on board- that could be a fiasco if he wasn't! Good luck!

LOL, oh come on, how hard could it be for you guys to deal with flying 4 flights, oversees, with an infant, mom and moms boobs not there to comfort them, each of you being alone with one baby for about 2 weeks.....sounds like a dream, why didn't you think of it sooner  :rotflmbo:

I have to agree. You have it so much easier than some. You can take as much liquid as you like on board as long as you smuggle it in your breasts! And she sounds like she'd be SUCH a great help since she's asked you to fly halfway across the globe on her whim! I don't see the problem, girlie. A walk in the park...that's all she's asking, right?

Posts like this make me grateful for the mil I got.

I'll bet she didn't breastfeed. My MIL didn't and this sounds like something she would say. For real, you can't separate a nursing baby from Mommy that long! I, like you, have a hard time leaving them even just for a few hours! When I do, I get home and they look at me and start wailing and hold their little arms out to me like they are saying .. "Mommy, WHY did you LEAVE me?!" Oh, they have me wrapped already!

Think of how much you would WORRY about the flying baby (and your hubby too). Mine drives the girls up to a trail to run sometimes and I worry the whole time. What would I do if there was a wreck or something?! My whole world is in that car without me. Irrational, I know ... but a FLIGHT?! I couldn't imagine!

Oh my goodness. I can think of 1,000 reasons why that is a spectacularly absurd idea....but foremost, you're breastfeeding. How the **** would it even work?

    Gotta love loony family members....

WOW. Just be lucky she lives far away. Oh man you would be going through it right now if she lived near you. I wish my in-laws never came here. They moved from CA to be near us when they found out we were having twins and they are VERY needy. That is another story though.......

Wow...it's a wonder that DH got out of there a functioning well-behaved man! Can you imagine a mother like that? Clearly, she doesn't know you - his wife! Maybe she should start there. If she knew you- she'd never suggest such a thing.

YOUR'RE LYING!!! Nobody could be that CRAZY!!! I think if I had overheard that conversation I would have just laughed hysterically and hung up on her. My boys have yet to be separated for longer than it takes me to give one a bath while the other waits, and I plan on keeping it that way. She sounds like she's a few fries short of a happy meal. I have crazy inlaws too so I can totally relate, and I know how hard it can be to let things like that just slide off your back. Good thing you have the final say. And way to go DH for being 100% supportive :) .

Seriously, she said this?? I really cant believe it. And there is NO reason she isnt flying to YOU?? Other than laziness or no desire to do so?? Absolutely insane!! I agree with pp my babies have only been seperated twice, at birth when Ashley had to be ventilated for 12 hrs. and once when I took one to the store and one was sleeping with DH in the chair.... Like 6 months ago!! How absurd is she... although reminds me alot of my grandmother and what I think my mother might be turning into!! YIKES!!

why don't you suggest packing them in a box and sending them overnight. it's just as stupid as what she said. I just don't understand MIL's these days. I mean come on you had kids before WTF. I myself am going through MIL issues myself and can write a damn book on it so i will spare you. let's just say MIL lives downstairs from us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UGGGHHHH

Sometimes I am floored at the requests and expectations of family. Mine are almost three and I would allow them to fly without me for a week. That is just CRAZY!

That could go down as the craziest thing I have ever heard. I almost had to read it twice, because I just couldn't believe it!! I'm so sorry you have to deal with a crazy MIL. I just can't imagine ANYONE thinking that is a good way to schedule a visit!!

It's a miracle, alright! He's one of the sanest and most down to earth people I know. We all want to be a good example to our kids, but sometimes a negative example can work pretty well too, seems like!

    LOVE the inlaw/outlaw joke!

Ahhh, thank you all so much for letting me vent. Much better now. :)

I'm laughing that maniacal, borderline hysterical laugh...you have GOT to be kidding me?? LOVE the suggestion to just put them in a box. Or maybe one of those nice mesh carriers that people use for their dogs/cat.

    It's been said, but - FREAK-O-MATIC!!!
