I posted a while ago about my husband not liking a name I had picked out for one of the boys… a name I have LOVED since I was 12… a name I wanted to name my first son… but he didn’t like it as he knew a jerk with that name and I know what that can do to a name… well a few years ago my girlfriend (the one who introduced us) got married to a GREAT guy… I mean I couldn’t have hand picked a better guy for her (or anyone really) and he has the name I love… so he balanced out the jerek and since we are having 2 boys I said I would give up the naming rights for one and I wanted to name the other the name I have always loved…
Well one day I read a post about someone having the same drama with her husband, and stating that what she wanted for Christmas was him to give up his naming rights… I casually brought that up to my DH that I thought that was a great gift idea…and I got a beautiful certificate from my DH that says “This certificate entitles Elizabeth M to name one child without comment or sneers from husband”

    Oh, of course… Seth…

He still hasn’t decide on his twin name yet… its between Nathan (my top pick) and Ian (so far his top pick)… but when we tell friends and family, they mostly like Nathan better… so I’m keeping quite (as that was my deal) but I hope he ends up picking Nathan…

Ian is a great name... i will not be upset at ALL if my son is named Ian... its just if i could pick between the two he has picked... plus DH does have a good argument that with our first being Noah, Nathan will make Seth the only non "N" name...

Oh I here you on THAT… my MIL doesn’t like Seth she says it sounds like a lisp… I said to my DH even more of a reason for me to like it… I learned from my first, everyone has different taste in names… and someone will not like what you have pick… it almost angered me that my MIL thought she could have any input into the name… she is now trying to tell me that she knows if 3 babies just born with that name, and its gonna be soooo common you watch… this is from a women who named her first born Jeff… I personal have date 3 different Jeff’s… and I meet DH at 18!!!! I just told her, well I wanted to name Noah, Seth 10 years ago and your son was against it… so if it gets common now… it’s your sons fault… and her knowing 3 babies named Seth bull crap… I am around way more babies then she is, plus all you lovely ladies and your naming… and I have only come across one person who named there boy (of b/g twins) Seth… but this has morphed from a reply to a vent about my MIL… sorry :pardon:

Now THAT is awesome! What a cool gift from your husband! That's also a great story to tell your son when he gets to be older, too!

I like all of those name choices! People will always have something to say if you tell people your top picks before officially deciding on them. Telling people your possible list is like an open invitation for comment. But honestly, I have such a hard time choosing girl names that I've always appreciated the feedback from my family. I do get annoyed at some of the weird suggestions my mom gives me insisting that she "has the perfect name!"

I agree that was a great gift. I wish my cousin would have protested when his g/f decided to name their baby Oz.

    That was a great gift.

FWIW, my best friend from childhood always wanted a Seth. She and her DH are currently trying for their first, and if it is a boy, it will be Seth!!!
