Hey - I'm Sandy from Alabama. I love this forum! You gals are great! This forum is very insightful and inspiring. My DH and I have been TTC for 9 months and I had a feeling that something wasn't right. So we saw a fertility specialist and I was on 50 mg of clomid this cycle on CD 3-7. However I ovulated very early - CD 8 (which wasnt surprising b/c you never know what will happen with me when). I cant take the home ovulation tests because somehow my body tricks them into thinking I am ovulating when I am post ovulation. So I went in on CD 9 for an u/s - they saw 4 follicles on one side and 2 on the other. One measured 21 and another 17. I went in the next morning on CD 10 for an iui and an HCG shot. My estroidal was 154 and my progesterone was 0.4. I don't know what those numbers mean. But they saw one possibly two fluid sacks-both on the same side. I am now just waiting to see if the iui was successful for the next 2 wks. But I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience and conceived twins. I am hopeful for twins. There are 8 sets in my family. I know they say it doesn't help any, but my husbands dad is a twin and his dad has another set of twin siblings. Baby dust to everyone :)

I conceived my twins on my third IUI cycle. Clomid does slightly increase your chance of twins but not as much as injectible fertility drugs do. I was on Clomid the first two cycles and only conceived after switching to injectibles the third cycle. The month I conceived I had 3 definitely mature eggs and 2 sorta mid-sized ones. My doctor warned me that there was a really really really good chance of conceiving twins under those circumstances and a fair chance of conceiving triplets. She was right on the money with that prediction. You really shouldn't bother with those home ovulation tests if you're taking an HCG trigger shot. You'll definitely ovulate whatever mature eggs you have within 24 to 48 hours of administering that shot.

Your husband's family history of twins won't increase your chances of having twins, although it will increase the chance that any daughter you have with your husband will have twins. You have to inherit the gene that causes release of multiple eggs per month for family history to have any impact. You couldn't have inherited your husband's genes; thus, no impact. Your family history could have an impact, but the fertility drugs will have more of an impact. Identical twins, of course, are just random acts of nature. Can't inherit a tendency for those.

I wish you the best of luck with your fertility treatments. It's a nerve-wracking, crazy journey that you're on, but it does work. Try not to stress out too much about it because that only makes it harder.

Having twins "run in the family" on your husband's side will not raise your chances of conceiving twins. A woman releasing two eggs during a cycle is a maternal trait. And having a egg split (in the case of identical twins) is still considered a completely random act. Taking clomid will raise you chances of having multiples. Good luck!

    Hi!
Sounds like you didn't ovulate on day 8, but rather on day 11 or 12? When you are on clomid I think the ones that are more likely to release an egg are the ones over 20, with injectibles I believe the magic number is 18 or so (I think I have that right). The estradiol levels I think are about 150-200 per mature follicle. So you at least got one great egg, maybe two with the follicles still having time to grow before releasing an egg. (I think anything over 16mm CAN contain a mature egg?)
Good luck and keep us updated!!

I was told clomid gave me a 10% of having twins and injectibles gave me a 20% chance.

:) Thanks so much for the replies and luck thus far! I agree I have read that twins in the father's side of the family doesnt make any difference. I am curious if anyone has had follices around that size (21 and 17 on CD 9) that both did go on to mature into 2 eggs. I wasnt sure why i was given the hcg shot on the same day as my iui (CD 10), but they know more about this than i do!

Just wanted to wish you good luck

I got pregnant with my twins while taking Clomid as well (got pregnant on 2nd round of clomid), I only had 2 eggs that cycle & both fertilized :) I *think* they said that I only had a 5% chance of having twins.

I don't know when I had my Ultra sound the doctor said I only had one egg at 18cm and that would be the only one, I never ended up taking the shot that would stimulate the release of the egg and here we are with what they believe to be frat twins! Lifes a mystery!

This is the same way I got pregnant with twins. I am not sure the size of the follicles though because my doctor was measuring them differently. She said it was most likely to work when they are 2.0 or higher (maybe thats 20?). I had my HCG shot on Wednesday and IUI on Friday (because Christmas was Thursday) but it all worked somehow.

My daughter took femara and done the Gonal F injections. On the day she got her trigger she had one follicle at 18 and one at 22 she also had one at 15 and she is now 24 weeks pregnant with fraternal twin girls. They found out at the first ultrasound at 7 weeks. Her doctor admitted he thought there was a chance the follicle at 15 might mature but it didn't. I wish you lots of luck and prayers.
