So, I am visiting per MFM every 2 weeks for cervical checks (gave birth to my singleton at 29 weeks, so I am high risk). She said my cervix is still firm and closed but the the lenght went down almost a whole cm in 2 weeks time. She wants me to come back in 1 week so they can be sure nothing is going wrong. She says the 2.8 is still a good length, but she says that she is overly cautious with her high risk patients. Do any of you ladies have any experience with cervical issues at, or around 20 weeks??? Even thought she said not to be concerned, of course, I still am...

mine happened a little bit later but between my 24 week appointment & my 27 week appointment my cervix went from 4 cm to 2 cm. i was put on bedrest & ended up carrying my girls to 34w1d without any further change to my cervix (after 7 weeks of bedrest & all that worry about very PTL my last appointment involved me arguing with my OB about not being induced at 36 weeks :pardon: ). at any rate, my girls did spend two weeks in the NICU but mostly just feeding & growing.

do try not to worry. i know it's hard, but it sounds like your doc is keeping a close eye on you - just take it easy & stay off your feet as much as you can.

Mine was around 24 weeks, too. It went from 4 to 1.7cm. I got the steroid shots and put myself on modified bed rest. My cervix stayed closed and went up to 1.9 for the remainder of the pregnancy. (37 w 5 d).

Take it easy & eat lots!

Mine happened later as well, at 20w I was well over 4cm and then at 24 weeks I was at 1cm. I had an emergency cerclage ( I was dilated to 2cm as well) and put on bedrest.

I do know there are many Ladies on here whose cervix shortened early on and they did end up carrying their babies to 36+ weeks. I know it's hard not to worry.

My cervix was 2.9 at 23 weeks, and my doc told me to "take it easy" (i.e. don't carry my toddler, sit and rest as much as possible). It kept getting shorter so at 25 weeks (I might have been 2 cm?) I was put on complete bedrest at home. I stayed that way until 36 weeks when I was allowed to get up and move again. At that point, I was 4 cm dilated and expected to go any minute. But somehow I made it another 2 1/2 weeks and delivered via scheduled C-section at 38 1/2 weeks.

    Good luck!

My cervix shortened from 4cm to 2.9cm at 20weeks and I had funneling. Due to the funneling, my dr. put me on bedrest at home. My cervix didn't shorten that much over the next 7 weeks. I ended up delivering early as our boys developed acute onset twin twin transfusion syndrome...but it wasn't due to my cervix. Good luck and take it easy (when you can:)

I must say that your stories made me feel better! Of course I am trying to avoid bedrest, but I will do what needs to be done to keep them in for much, much longer:) I am hoping when I go next week that it will back up to almost 4. I have heard that it can happen. It is so hard to take it easy when I have a 2 year old to chase after!!! Man o man...
