I wanted to update, since I was asking on Tuesday about some discomfort and PTL symptoms I was having, and let everyone know that my boys were born on Wednesday February 12th, when I was exactly 28 weeks along. "Baby A", Nicholas, weighed 1lb 10.5oz and "Baby B", Clifford, weighed 2lbs 3oz. I was on magnesium sulfate for about 12 hours to try and stop my contractions, and while they didn't stop my cervix did stop dilating so labor stalled. On Wednesday morning the nurses were having a hard time keeping the boys on the heart monitors so I was sent in for an ultrasound, and they quickly realized that they were in the final stages of TTTS, Baby B was already in heart failure and they needed to be born ASAP. I was stunned, since I'd just had an ultrasound check the week before and everything had looked fine, there'd been no signs of TTTS at all; I didn't realize it could happen that suddenly and that fast. They tried drawing off some of the amniotic fluid from B's sac, to ease the pressure on his heart and get him through until the steroid shots they had given me had time to work, but within 20 minutes of the procedure they realized his heart wasn't going to handle it and I was taken in for an emergency c-section. The boys were born in the same minute, at 2:55pm, 9 minutes after I was told they'd need to come out. Talk about fast!

They seem to be doing well so far, although they've both had issues with inadequate urine output. Nicholas received Dopamine yesterday afternoon to help him out and by last night had peed 8 mL, so they gave Clifford Dopamine last night as well to see if it would work for him. Nick was extubated yesterday afternoon and has the CPAP to help him out a little, and Cliff still has the tube, although he's off the extra oxygen and just on regular air. Their doctors anticipate they'll be in the NICU for about 8 weeks, which feels like a lifetime to me. Heck it feels like a lifetime has passed already, and it's only been two days. We're just taking things one day at a time.

The c-section recovery has been rougher than I expected but overall not too bad. My staples will be removed and I'll be discharged tomorrow, and then I get to figure out how to divide my time between my two older children at home and the twins here at the hospital, which is about an hour away from my house. *deep breath* Hopefully we'll figure it out.

What an amazing birth story! It sounds like the hospital is doing wonders for your babies. It's great that they were on top of things and got them out in time. The NICU journey is tough, but I liked to think that it was safer for them to be there, monitored 24/7 than inside me getting a weekly u/s. It helped give me some peace of mind. You may want to see if there is a Ronald McDonald house at the hospital so you can occasionally spend the night and keep you from the drive EVERY day. The NICU forum is GREAT and I really recommend it! My boys were born at 33 weeks and spend 4 weeks in the NICU so the time they gave you is probably accurate. Now I'm rambling! Congrats on the arrival of Nick and Clifford!
