My boys are here!

Sorry this is a little late--- but Joel Edward and Bryan David arrived at 35w6d, April 7 at 5:19 and 5:20, weighing 5lbs 7oz and 5lbs 9 oz, respectively. My water broke at about 1am in the morning, so we went in to L&D but had to be transported via ambulance from our hospital to the one downtown w/ the NICU for a C-section since Joel (A) was still breech. Everything really went fast- though they were taken straight to the NICU after birth, and I didn't get to see them till after I was done in recovery. They were on the CPAP for a few days but they did well, and were able to come home the following Saturday (last weekend). The worst part of the whole deal was that no one at the hospital took my blood pressures seriously when they started slowly rising toward my 3rd and 4th day, and the day after I was released I was admitted to our hospital on base (we're military) for Post Partum Pre-E. So I was stuck in one hospital while the boys were at the NICU in the other for about 3 days! And goodness, I think I'd rather have another C-section than to deal w/ the Mag again... but we're all home now. Our biggest issue is eating- neither is nursing well, but I think it all goes back to the NICU giving them bottles, hopefully we can over come this! Otherwise, they're absolutely precious and I couldn't imagine them being any sweeter! :lol:

Congratulations on the birth of your sweet little boys! I'm sure it was hard to be away from them, but I'm glad you're all home together now. Hope they get the hang of nursing soon. Keep at it...they may just have to get a little bigger to do well. Are you pumping at all? Will you have any pics to share when you get the chance? Hope you recover quickly and get some rest.

Congratulations! Sorry to hear about the blood pressure, I had a similar issue and was actually put on meds after delivery. Are you still watching it?

I hope things go well now that you are all home together, don't forget to take care of yourself!

Make sure to offer the brest often and bf/pump atleast 8-10 times a day. Have you tried nipple shileds?

 

Congrats on the twins. Glad to hear everyone is home and doing well. It is possible to continue nursing once they have left the nicu, but it does take alittle work. We were able to do it with my single with the help of a nipple shield that it took another 2 weeks to wean him from. Best of luck.

 

Congratulations on your babies!! Please feel free to visit our breastfeeding forum for some support & advice! There are a lot of women there that could offer up some support for you! Breastfeeding twins is very worthwhile, but can be difficult, especially at first. My recommendation is a nursing marathon. Some weekend, when you have help, just sit down and nurse. Nurse as often as they want. Have someone there to bring you food & to change their diapers! It does get easier... you just have to hang in there! :hug99:

Thanks for the tips ladies! I saw an LC yesterday- and she did give me some nipple shields, though Bryan doesn't seem to be any more keen on those than he is on me. :angry: And she said with Joel, it is probably something he'll grow into- since they're only "38 weeks" now, they're still not "ready" to be full term as she put it, so I shouldn't expect them to nurse like full term babies yet. I hope she's right about that! Looking forward to the FY journey with everyone! Thanks again for your encouragement!
