So I chose my names a while back - my girl is Charlotte Jude and my boy is Parker Scott - I have been catching a lot of slack from my family about the name Parker and it's starting to make me question if it is a good name.

Has anyone been through this before......

Yes, but only from one family member! It was about my boy name too (Corbin) and we had a big fight about it  I think the names are cute, I really love Charlotte.

If we'd had a boy, he would have been Parker, so I love it! As long as you like it, don't worry about everyone else. We didn't tell anyone the names until after they were born for that exact reason!

I think it is a nice name. I have known both boys and girls with that name. Don't let them bother you. When I first named my son Nolan, my father said "Where did that name come from??" He thinks of it as a last name (just as he does my niece Courtney, and my nephews Ryan and Brady).

    I love the name!

And don't let other people sway you. We did let others sway us with our first name for DS and we both regret it now.

That's a good name for a boy. Unusual, but not weird. The teachers will all know how to pronounce it and spell it, but he won't be one of three Parkers in his class.

And I agree with Gina: if *you* like the name, don't let other people change your mind for their taste. That would be like looking at your wedding pictures 20 years later and still being mad you let someone talk you into the dress you didn't like as well.

I do like Parker Scott. however, Parker is a gender neutral name. Maybe that's the source of the conflict???
I also had "back up" names, just in case when I was holding the babies, and they didn't look like a Rachel or Alexis then I could name them my back up names.

I would just ignore them. My son's name is Aiden Tripp and my in-laws hated our choice for a middle name. Everytime we talked to them they had a new list of names to suggest to us. But we stuck with it (probably because they hated it so much lol) and I don't regret it and since the day he was born they have never said another word about it. They will love your son no matter his name and he is your son so you should get to pick the name. They had their turn and now it's yours. I don't think we are going to tell our choices to family this time around. Good luck and I love both of those names

Don't let it get to you. The same thing happened to me and b/c of that we didn't use our #1 girl name. We regret it now and if we have a 3rd girl we're definitely naming her that name and not telling anyone until she is born. Parker is a fine name!

I love the name Parker. I think both names you chose are beautiful names. Ask those that are giving you a hard time, "will you really love Parker any less if you don't like his name". Everyone needs to get a grip.

I am particular to Charlotte, of course, because it is my name. LOL
I am totally in love with the name Parker too!

    Bravo! Stand firm! Gorgeous names!

love Parker, and Charlotte is such a pretty name too.

People will always have opinions on ur names, that's why we didn't tell anyone before the girls were born and then its harder if u've already names them lol

Go with what u want and try to ignore them

That is exactly why we don't share our names with any family or friends until the baby arrives. We started that with our oldest and now we are having baby 4 and 5 and we still are doing it. It drives some family members nuts and I had one ask "well don't you want our opinions in case we don't like it?". My response was no I don't. We don't do it to be mean but there is bound to be someone who doesn't like your name choice and will be vocal about telling you so. I always figure even if they don't like it they will get use to it and once they bond with the child they will love them and the name will mean nothing at that point. We chose names that are not super ordinary but not wacky. Both my husband and I had extremely common names and we wanted our kids to have a more unique name but not one that they would be teased for.
By the way Parker is a great name. I think it sound strong and prestigous.

No problem with Parker here. I also think it's the kind of name that will grow on them. They'll get over it once it's actually his name. People just like to make noise.

I love the name Parker! We have found that people you know will always try to think of something negative about the name you are choosing (unless it is their name lol) because they don't have any connection to the pregnancy, can't imagine what they will be/look like, etc. so they only try to find something why the name wouldn't work. One couple I know told people they were naming their baby Oprah when asked. For some reason, people want to be included so bad in your decision.

Coming from a Mommy with a son named Parker, I love it. We go by our boys middle names and we named our Parker after my DH’s best friend that he served in Iraq with. :D

I like Parker for a little boy! I think its great, and if you like it, then you should go with what you like. However this is exactly why we stopped having the name discussion with family and friends when we found out I was having girls. I don't need opinions on the names I choose. Lord knows I get opinions on everything else!
