Short Story: Aurora Jade was born at 4:19pm weighing 5 lbs 6oz and Maya Elise was born at 4:20pm weighing 4lbs 9oz , born Monday the 26th, born @ 35w 4d if going by my dr dates or 36w according to mine...

Long story: (afterall i was in the hospital for over a week!)
Ok, so last thursday the 22nd, I went to my regular dr for a NST and a check up. My NST was great and then the nurse came in and checked my BP. It was something like 126/86 or something like that.. Not too high but a little high for me. I think i have been running diastolic (Bottom #) around 75 or so... She checked it 3 times and it was around the same. So they sent me next door to the hospital, and my BP was higher, they did a 24 urine test, and the results came back at 1195 or something round there... And during that time my BP would spike up to the 140's/high 90's, low 101's. So they kept me for observation and kinda hospital bed rest..My regular Dr would have been on call that weekend but had a death in the family, and the Dr on call i don't really care for so I was glad that things were stable enough for me to just be watched.

But sunday night I had an episode feeling really weird and couldn't quite put my finger on it..Come to find out that my BP had spiked again. So the Dr on call called my regular doc, and they consulted a perinatologist and they said that i was close enough to 36 weeks that they would go ahead and induce.

Baby A was very low, and when they tried to check me (by the way the most painful experience i probably had at the hospital) her head was pushing so far down on my cervix, and it was pointing towards the back that 2 nurses couldn't pull it around to see if i was thinned out at all or dilated. So they started my IV, and put me on Magnesium sulfate (HORRRIBLE STUFF) for my BP, and started me on cerviadil.

The Monday morning My dr was back in town and came and checked on.. when she pulled out the cervadil, it was very painful. From what she said it wasn't even supposed to hurt but feel like a tampon being pulled out..She tried to check me but I was in so much pain and baby A was sooooo low that she couldn't do anything. So she said that i could go ahead and get my epi and that they would start me on pitocin to get my contractions really going, the cervadil was giving me some regular contractions on its own.

The epi wasn't too bad, just stung once it was going in. Funny thou Aaron was sitting in front of me and he couldn't see them putting the needle in, but he said that he caught a glimpse of the needle before they did and felt me jump, and after that he started to shake and and he looked really pale... The Nurses had to get a seat behind him and get him something to drink

Life was wonderful after I got the epi. Contractions weren't so bad felt some of them, but not bad. When my dr came back to check me it was SOOOOOOOOOOO much better with the epi, i didn't even feel it, just a smidge of pressure. She worked me over some with her "magic fingers" was finally able to pull my cervix around and acutally broke my water in the process. I was only dilated to a 1 - 1.5, there was a band around my cervix that she said was kinda felt like scar tissue that she couldn't quite pull through. I haven't had any surgery on my cervix so she really didn't know what it was. Behind it she could tell i was thinning out and Baby A's head was very low so she was betting that once that band gave way that i was going to go extremely quick.

Round 3:30 or 4 that afternoon, she came round to check me again. (i don't know how long it was after the 1st time. The magnesium was making me EXTREMELY out of it) I hadn't made any progress at all, I was completely thinned out behind the band on my cervix, babies head was very low and pushing on it, i was having regular contractions but wasn't progressing past the 1.5 cm, and she said that we could wait another 4 hours but that she really didn't see it changing. She said it felt like a metal washer and she couldn't stretch it or pull it any bigger, and recommended we just go ahead and do a C/S. So off we went for that. We got prepped and probably within just 15 min they were ready for me. They started giving me 1 dose of the medication and tested me after it and i wasn't completely numb on my right side only my left. They gave me another and the same thing happened. Finally after 3 doses of epi medication i still wasn't getting completely numb on my right side, the anestesistalogist said that they could do the a block but really didn't think it would be a good idea since they had already given me 3 large doses. So the only other option at that point was to go under completely. DH wasn't allowed to be in the room because when they do general they have to move very fast because the medication crosses the placenta.

So baby A (aurora) did well was born, and baby B (maya) must have gotten low apgar scores at 1st because one of the dr's I was told was worried at 1st. But they gave her some medication to counteract the general anestesista, and after that was doing better. She did have to go to NICU for a little bit and put on the CPAP, but was doing well. By tuesday she was doing much better and was just on the canola, and by the end of the day was just on regular room air. She started here feeds on tuesday and did them well. I didn't get to see her at all til wednesday because I had to be on the Magnesium for 24hrs after delivery and was still hooked up to the catheter, but was in with us in the room by wednesday mid-day. The neo-natologist said that she probably would have been fine if she hadn't gotten some of the anestesista.

I still had issues with my BP for several days. Even after the 24 hrs, of being hooked up to the Mag, they had to start me on another 6 hours because not long after they stopped it my BP was spiking again. I will be soo glad if i never have to be on that stuff again,
    EVER!!!!

So I am still on BP medication because they couldn't get it under controled.. I guess it is PIH. On thursday (this week) they kept me and with the oral procardia my BP was still a little high like 130/86 or so but no where near where it had been previously. Friday morning my liver enzymes were up and i nearly had to stay another day but the dr said that if they repeated my labs and if they were down, not necessarily normal but going in the right direction she would let me go home. I was soooooooo glad to get to go home!!

Girls are doing well. They are feeders and eaters. They eat formula about every 4 hours and sleep in-between. They aren't really good with the BF yet, because they still are early but they suck some on the breast but they don't do it for very long before getting really tired, so they "practice" for about 30 min when i can tolerate it and then get supplemented. My milk has started to come in today and my breast are very sore. Last night was the 1st night home and i have to admit that the 2am and the 6am feedings are the hardest on me. I am so mentally drained that i just want to scrap the whole BF thing. I know i need to try to stick with it for a few more weeks til they get the sucking down.

But other then that, I am surviving, and trying to rest. I am moving around slow from the C/S but hopefully that will get better with time. My dr did say that she was glad that I ended up delivering when I did, because with the nearly a 1lb difference between the girls, more then what the U/S were showing, that obliviously Maya wasn't getting the nourishment that she needed in the womb. But she is a trooper and actually right now the size difference is the way we are able to tell them apart!

If you made it through all of this i am impressed!!

Here are a few of my favorite pics that the nursuries took of the girls!!!

Congratulations on the birth of your little princesses. I'm sorry you had a bit of an ordeal with the Mag and then having to have a c/s under general, but it looks like it was worth it in the end. Your little girls are soooo beautiful! Enjoy your new life with them!
