I finally have a minute alone to share my birth story. I went to the high risk doctor on Wednesday Sept 9. They found protien in my urine and my BP was a little elevated. They told me to come back on Monday and when I mentioned that my BP's were elevated the previous 2 weeks at the OB they set me up for the 24 hour urine study. The doctor said I might deliver on Friday. I did the study and dropped it off on Friday morning. I went back to the high risk on Friday afternoon and they found a higher level of protien, 4 plus I think, so they said I was going to deliver that day. We were sooo excited. The doctor is right at the hospital so it was a short walk over to L&D. Getting set up for the c-section was nerve racking but I couldn't wait to meet my babies. They were going to give me magnesium but it wasn't started in time so they said it would be started after the surgery. I was happy for that cuz they said I would have to start the catheter before being numb. YUCK. I was taken into surgery after 8pm. Baby A Megan was born @ 8:42, 5.13 oz. Baby B was born at 8:44, 6.10 0z. No nicu time for either baby. They were both super healthy. Now for the scary part. My blood pressure started to drop during the surgery. Not too bad but it made me a little nervous. I was ok for a bit in recovery but my numbers weren't looking so great. My family all left except my husband and MIL & FIL. The nurses kept coming to me for that uterine massage and I said to one of them that the blood felt like it was pouring out of me when they did the massage. She then had me lift me butt in the air and she could see the blood coming out as she was massaging me. I didn't realize just how bad t was that I was bleeding like that. Everything just got worse for here. They kept saying I might go back into surgery. I knew that meant they would take out my uterus. They kept pushing fluids on me. One of the doctors had me sign a release for a transfusion. My pressure kept dropping. I just wanted to see my babies but they wouldn't let them come into my room. Around four in the morning my BP bottomed out at 68/40, thats when my breathing started to go bad. It felt ok but didn't sound right. Then they dropped the head of my bed and I started to get really scared, 2 doctors and 3 nurses all working on me at the same time. I got my first 2 units of blood at 4:30. At 7am they moved me into a different room in L&D. Through the rest of the day I got 2 more units of blood and a cat scan to determine why I was bleeding like that. My doc said I went into DIC that my uterus wouldn't contract. I was finally moved to post pardum on Sunday morning. With all the fluids they pushed on me my whole body blew up. I only lost 10 pounds after delivery. I knew that night that I wasn't good but I didn't care. I know I almost died. My babies are here and thats all that mattered. I am in much better shape now. I have lost all of the weight I gained. I'm actully down 13 pounds from my prepregnancy weight. I had to get a Pitocin drip 2 weeks after delivery to contract my uterus further but that wasn't so bad. I just wanted to share b/c I nver thought something like this would happen to me. I know you can't plan your delivery but I never thought I could die. I am so grateful to all of the doctors and nurses that cared for me. I am grateful for all the small victories I have.

Oh you poor thing! I am so glad everything is ok, and you are alright. The reality is you never know what will happen during labor and delivery, you just have to believe the best possible scenario for yourself. I am so sorry you experienced such a scary birth, but you are healthy now and just enjoy those babies! Life is precious.

Wow, I'm so glad that you're ok! When I came out of my egg retrieval, my blood pressure dropped to 70/40 so I know how weird that feels and how scary it is, too.

So glad that you are doing better! :)
