Walker was admitted to the hospital on Monday afternoon due to a red, hot, swollen lump on his neck under his right ear and fever. Both babies have had a nasty cold...like the rest of us...and Jocelyn got an ear infection but apparently Walker got the infection in his lymph nodes. After SEVEN tries they finally got an IV started for antibiotics. My poor little baby. I was trying to stay strong for him and talk him through it but was in tears with him. He's spent most of the time sleeping. We got a DR to order Jocelyn to room-in since I breastfeed. SO both babies and Nick and I are all in the hospital room. He had a CT Scan yesterday and he has infected lymph nodes. Several enlarged ones and one deep one that is absessed. They've added one more antibiotic to his mix in his IV to see if that will help. His poor little neck looks better than yesterday and his spirits are up but still not a significant improvement. He'll be on the IV for at least another 48 hours. After 48 hrs on the IV they'll decide if they're going to do surgery to drain the absess, leave him on IV longer, or if he's well enough to go home on oral meds. SO we'll be here till Friday at least is my guess. What a LONG week. I was just starting to get them used to their new home, a schedule and now this. At least they finally take Paci's. That helps and they all of a sudden have learned to self soothe and put themselves to sleep so it does help a lot. Anyway, keep our little Walker man in your thoughts and prayers and hopefully we'll be home soon. We have the laptop at the hospital now so we'll update when we have more news.

Thanks so much :) We're still in the hospital but Walker is getting a bit better. The redness is all but gone so it doesn't look as "angry". It's still swollen and hard though. They think the antibiotics are doing their job. His blood count looks a lot better. They're still concerned about the firm mass. They were going to do another CT Scan this morning but since it's looking a bit better they'd rather not expose him to more radiation. They said POSSIBLY (chance in he!! basically) we might be able to go home this afternoon but most likely Saturday or Sunday. Looking less likely for surgery but still a chance. I'd really like to be home for Mother's Day. They let him go off fluids except for medicine time so we were able to go to the Playroom which they enjoyed. Got to sit in Bumbos for the first time and loved them. Wish they weren't so expensive. So we got to bring those back to our room and a crib aquarium. Walker loves that - we may have to look into that for them at home. Better get going for now. Will update later. Thanks again for your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes. :)

I'm glad to hear Walker is getting better, I bet it's been a long few days for all of you. I hope you are able to get discharged ASAP!

RE: Bumbos, check craigslist, because I see them there all of the time for $15-20, which would be a good savings.

Lisa, sorry you little guy is sick, but I'm glad to see he's getting better. Do they have any idea how the infection spread to his lymph nodes?

We are all thinking about your family.

    Lisa,

Walker will definitely be in my thoughts for a speedy recovery. My daughter was in the hospital for a week when she was 4 months old for a bladder infection/E. Coli and my DS was allowed to room with us too! It is tough to have two kids in that little room, I know. Also my DS now has a lump in his neck for 2 weeks so I feel your pain all around. If you ever need to talk PM anytime.

    Hugs,

My 1.5 yr old had that last year. He had the swollen lymph node in his neck...they take that very seriously (didn't know this until later) because those lymph nodes can swell and cut off their breathing. I'm glad he is responding to the antibiotic. My ds had to have the IV antibiotics for 3 days, but then went home and was just fine. Sounds like you are heading down that positive road. I'm so sorry you had to go through that  Never fun to have such a sick little one!

We were sprung!!!! We got out at noon. They decided he's well enough to be on oral meds! We were all so happy that even Walker was smiling and laughing. We're all very happy to be home. Hope he continues to heal well on this but he's in VERY good spirits right now. The babies are both just all smiles. :) Not sure how the lymph nodes got infected :( My mom ended up getting a Bumbo on Ebay and MIL on Craigslist :) Need to run for now. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers!!

Yeah for being home for Mother's day! And yeah for getting Bumbo's!! We still use ours from time to time when we are out at friends houses for feeding time. Hope Walker continues to improve at home!!
