my 2 month old girls are such light sleepers! they'll be sound asleep while i'm holding them, then as soon as i put them down, as gently as possible, they are wide awake. also, any little sound in the room startles them and wakes them up. i cant do anything while they're asleep for fear of waking them up. is this normal for 2 months old? is it possible for this to change in the coming months?

Try white noise machines or a continual soft lullaby CD. My guys are still light sleepers, sorta, but since we ALWAYS have a sound machine on, they usually sleep through most anything now!

I ditto this. We use a noise machine and it's worked great!

We had the same problem w/ our boys waking as soon as they were put down. The white noise helped us, too. We also swaddled with the velcro wraps until they were about 4 1/2 months old for naps and night. It made them feel more secure, I think.
However, I have noticed that our twins do not sleep as heavily as our oldest DS, so I guess every baby is different!
    Congratulations on your beautiful girls!!

I think that's pretty common for that age. But I heartily agree with PP's - WHITE NOISE MACHINES! We have 3 in our house. One for each baby and even one for us (it's the only way I can nap now)!

oh yeah.. white noise is a must!
with that being said... it's not too late to retrain your babies to put themselves to sleep - by putting them down for their naps before they're asleep (which eliminates them waking up after they've fallen asleep in your arms).
our house is hardly ever quiet (with 6 kids - of which 4 are WILD boys! LOL) and my girls must be pretty deep sleepers because I can vacuum their rooms (with them in there taking naps) and it won't wake them up.

I ditto the white noise, and don't be afraid of making noise. Mine used to nap downstairs with me so I had the tv on, the phone rang, etc. I never made an effort for it to be noise free. And now we can have a party while they are sleeping upstairs :D

I have one who was a great napper and sleeper and the other one would hear everything and didn't want to miss anything. I trully understand those parents who keep things quiet "because the baby is sleeping". We have music going continuously for naps and only in the beginning at bedtime. During naps if the music stops ... she wakes up. Every baby is different.

Well everyone else suggested it, but I'll chime in here too- white noise machine! We just use a fan as ours. But at 2 months old they were sleeping where ever, whenever, and if they were sleeping on me, I'd just hold them. Cherish those moments and let everything else slide... soon they won't want to sleep on you and you'll miss it!
