My babies are here!

Annalise Catherine and Marcus Joel arrived on 1/11/07 at 12:54pm at 5lbs, 13oz 18" and 1:13pm, 6lbs, 14oz and 20" respectively. It was a completely bizarre experience, I must say. I went in for a routine OB appointment on Wednesday the 10th and was told that I was already 4cm dilated. I hadn't felt any contractions so this was a huge surprise. We decided that I would come in to deliver the babies the next morning because of my fast labor history and how far dilated I already was.

I arrived at the hospital around 7:15am and they started a Pitocin drip around 8am. Both of the babies were vertex, but I was told to request an epidural as soon as I felt uncomfortable, given the unpredictability of a twin birth. My OB broke Annalise's water around 10am

Here's the weird part...I never felt anything uncomfortable or rhythmic so I just sat there reading a magazine. I asked the nurse about turning up the Pitocin but she said they were having a busy morning with some unplanned c-sections so they told me to hang on.

At noon my OB checked my progress and I was already complete. My OB then decided we could try for an unmedicated birth. They wheeled me into the OR around 12:30, called an Anesthesiologist to stand by "just in case", set everything up for delivery and that was it.

Annalise came first then there was a lull while Marcus was repositioned in place and then I started pushing Marcus out.

The whole experience was very surreal and scary in hindsight since I could've been one of those ladies who goes to the toilet and unexpectedly drops a baby! I'm so glad I was in the hospital in time!

We just got home yesterday and last night was kind of rough. Marcus picked up the nursing well but Annalise prefers the bottle and won't suck on my breast [IMG]. I've been pumping but it's hard. The baby blues come and go, too.

Congratulations! That's great that everything went so smoothly, that is the way birth is supposed to be. [IMG] You're blessed that your mind and body didn't have any hang-ups that caused you to tense up or fear the experience and you were able to have the babies as naturally as possible. What a wonderful birth! Congrats again! [IMG]

[IMG] YYEEAAHH!! Congratulations on the birth of your babies! What a wonderful experience, don't we all wish we could be so lucky! Even if we can't, it is still an inspiration to us all that it can be done! Glad to hear you are all home and healthy! Breastfeeding will come, just be persistent! If it doesn't, there is no shame in bottlefeeding with formula! You do what you have to do to remain happy and less stressed!

    You´re so cool! [IMG]

Your birth story was exactly what I wanted to read short before delivering - I´m awaiting the pain really anxiously, and your birthstory is just what I was dreaming about.

Congratulations to your healthy babies - Annalise is my daughter´s favourite name, all her "babies" are named Annalise [IMG]

Congratulations! I am glad that everything is going well. My little girl never took the breast very well. I pump for both of my babies and feed them bottles. Good luck with three little ones, I know it can get crazy!

Congrats on their birth! I have had people tell me "It really didn't hurt until it came time to push!"

I am glad they are doing well. Annalise will get the nursing. It took Allison (our baby B) a while to get it. I still pump but now she mostly nurses while I top her off with a bottle if she is still hungery!
