    HELLO LADIES! I need HELP!!
This is my first post with my new twinkies!! :)
They are 10 days old tonight and I have a few questions, comments, etc that I would like some feedback on por favor!

First off, my baby boy, Mister Cash's stomach is dry and looks flaky but when you touch it, it is not flaky. But definitely dry. I put some baby powder on it but don't know what good that will do. Should I try lotion after his bath? or anything else??\

Also, now that both of their belly buttons have fallen off. WOO HOO!! Can I massage them with a little bedtime lotion after their bath or no?

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I BATHE THEM?!!!!! Haha

When you diaper do you do anything other than wipes? Baby powder? Diaper cream?
I have yet to really put anything on them because there is no rash or anything but, I have noticed their butts and thighs have been a little more red that usual.

At 10 days old how much were your babies eating every 3 hours? I pump breast milk, and they eat about 2.5 ounces every 3 hours? That seems like a lot to me!! Especially considering in the hospital it was like 40 cc...now its pretty much doubled!!

My little ones get the hiccups DAILY. When did you start introducing water? They don't seem miserable when they get them but I'm sure they would rather not have them! Haha

I think that is pretty much it. I take care of my twins on my own 99.9% of the time. So any other input anyone has that saved them a lot of time and stress would be much appreciated. My baby girl is extremely calm and easy but my baby boy is a FUSS POT and sometimes cries for over 2 hours straight at night- for what seems like NO REASON.
It's terribly difficult to watch him cry and know that there is nothing you can do to make him feel better!!

Oh and BURPING - is the most frustrating thing in the world!! AHHH

Here's a photo of them too!! Baby boy, Cash on the left and baby girl, Presley on the right.

He will probably outgrow this soon but if you want to put a little baby lotion on it that would be fine. Powder will dry it out more since the point of the powder is to absorb moisture.

Same answer as above, if you want to use lotion you can. I bathe mine every other day but even a couple times a week is fine. Be careful with too much bathing if your little guy has sensitive skin.

The only thing I use is balmex and that is only if they have a rash. Otherwise, nothing.

    That sounds about right.

I don't use anything for hiccups but a lot of ladies like gripe water. Be careful because it was just recalled for something weird in it.

My hats off to you. Alone is hard. I'm sorry for your loss (and theirs). My recommendation would be to use swings and bouncies as much as they will let you. Do whatever it takes to get them calm and happy. It's hard when one is crying like that, even harder when they both do it. Remember that crying won't hurt them and as long as you are with them and soothing them as best you can that's all you can do. Do you have the DVD The Happiest Baby on the Block? If not, get that from amazon.com or call your local video rental place to see if they have it. Or, send me a message and I'll send you my copy. It will help with soothing methods.

    Best wishes!!

Agree with pp on everything that she said. White noise (vacuum, car ride) will help get them calmed down and to sleep too.

I USE JOHNSON'S LOTION AFTER BATHS AND BEFORE BED AND WHEN THEY ARE GETTING DRESSED FOR THE DAY.

I BATHE THEM EVERY OTHER DAY. SOMETIMES MORE IF THEY SPIT UP OR POOP ALL OVER THEIRSELVES.

I LOVE DESITIN. I JUST TRY TO LET THEIR BOTTOMS AIR OUT A BIT BEFORE I PUT THE DIAPER BACK ON.

    THAT DOES SOUND RIGHT.

IN THE NICU THEY TOLD US TO HOLD THEM UPRIGHT AND THE HICCUPS WOULD GO AWAY.

HE COULD HAVE REFLUX OR COLIC.
Oh and BURPING - is the most frustrating thing in the world!! AHHH

GOOD LUCK AND IT DOES GET EASIER.

Congatulations!!! Sounds like you're doing everything just fine. I agree also with everything PP said too. My girls hiccuped all of the time too. Especially after night feeding - when they should go back to sleep.... I bathed my girls every other night for the most part - but didn't stress if it was every 3 days or so. I lived in an older house near the ocean - so it was always kind of cool in the house. I put lotion on them no problem. They are eating great. Good luck - I used this forum and still do like a bibel. The Moms helped / help me SO much. Congratulations again!!

Our ped said no baby powder b/c it could get in their lungs. Also i would think the powder would be more drying. i would use lotion-we use the Johnsons pink bottle after every bath (whcih is every other day) our dr also said that if you were in water for 9 months ur skin would be dry and falling off too! it will go away soon. We dont use anything after a normal diaper change unless they have a rash..in which case we use triple paste. Our little girl had hiccups EVERY SINGLE DAY for MONTHS! we didnt do anything since it didnt seem to bother her at all. good luck!!

I agree with all the PP's.... I only bathe them every other day or every 3rd day and I do lotion (Aveeno) every night before bed whether they have a bath or not.
I also use Aveeno or Butt Paste on their bums before bed at night as a preventative measure since they are sleeping longer and their diapers are usually soaked when they get up.
My girls get the hiccups a few times a day!! They got them constantly in my belly and now its not as much but still a lot! I have read that it is a symptom of reflux which both my girls have. I feel so bad for them but unfortunately there is nothing we can do for them except try and distract them.

And from one single mother to another: Swing and Vibrating chair will be very handy! My girls spent a lot of time in them at the beginning, now that they are interacting more we do time on the floor or just hang out. I try to get some one-on-one time with each of them daily. And I dont tandem feed that way they each get some alone time too.
Also accept ALL offers for help!! Because eventually people dont offer as much! :)

You will be able to do it and do it well because its all you'll know! You'll amaze yourself and other by how well you manage twins alone!
    Congrats again and good luck!!

I always used lotion on them (Aveeno) and have never had any problems. At that age I only bathed them (a full bath) every few days because I was so exhausted and was still recovering from surgery. I would usually do a sponge bath every night before I put them in sleepers. Also when they are that young a bath everyday might dry them out. In the beginning we put vasaline on their butts when we changed diapers, that's what they showed us in the hospital. We stopped doing that after a few weeks and I have only ever put diaper cream on them before bed. James has his first diaper rash and he is 8 months old. I still don't really give them water except for practice in a sippy cup, my boys ALWAYS had hiccups. As for how much they are eating that sounds really good, as long as they aren't spitting up a lot after you feed them I wouldn't think they were getting too much. Mine were at 2-2.5 ounces for what seemed like forever, once I actually started nursing instead of pumping I stopped worrying so much about how much they were getting. As long as they were gaining weight I didn't care. I do remember them going through a peeling phase too and then shortly after almost all their hair fell out too! They were real cuties then!HaHa

If you want to use lotion you can, but avoid a lot of scented products. Your best bet for baby dry skin is Eucerin cream in the jar... It is really think and really expensive, but it will last!!! I am still using the jar I bought when my 3.5 year old was a newborn!!!

Also, now that both of their belly buttons have fallen off. WOO HOO!! Can I massage them with a little bedtime lotion after their bath or no?

You can message them with lotion if you like, but I would stay way from a lot of scented lotions, soaps, ect.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I BATHE THEM?!!!!! Haha

As often as you like, but once a week is more than enough at this age.

When you diaper do you do anything other than wipes? Baby powder? Diaper cream?
I have yet to really put anything on them because there is no rash or anything but, I have noticed their butts and thighs have been a little more red that usual.

I do use diaper cream IF they are red to prevent diaper rash, but not if they are not red. No need to waste the $$$ if they don't have a rash, but once they are red it can turn into a rash quick.

At 10 days old how much were your babies eating every 3 hours? I pump breast milk, and they eat about 2.5 ounces every 3 hours? That seems like a lot to me!! Especially considering in the hospital it was like 40 cc...now its pretty much doubled!!

That is definately NOT a lot! In fact they will soon be taking at least 4 ounces! When we left the hospital they were having us supplement breastfeeding sessions with 20cc's EBM that went to 4 ozs. within a week... more because they had stopped taking the breast  Actually mine are now taking the breast 100% and still eat every 2.5 - 3 hours. Except at night... Breast milk metabolizes much more quickly in thier system so they don't stay full as long.

By the way, I found that I got really overwhelmed with pumping all the time and then washing bottles and pump parts... It was like my life turned into pump, feed, wash, pump, feed wash... I was getting really discouraged about being able to keep that up for as long as I had wanted to breastfeed. Since I breastfed my daughter for just over 2 years I knew I wanted to a least breastfeed for the first year, and the pumping just seemed like it would be overwhelming long term... In the event you would like to get them taking the breast it is my highest recommendation that you contact a lactation consultant and request a home visit. I did this at 3 weeks of age and they have not had a bottle (unless I have been away from them) since then! Do it ... it will save your sanity!

My little ones get the hiccups DAILY. When did you start introducing water? They don't seem miserable when they get them but I'm sure they would rather not have them! Haha

Actually, doctors say that hiccups bother you more than they bother the babies. Actually breastmilk is about 85% water so it is not recommended that you give them water. I know that some people have had to introduce water due to reflux issues, but it is definately something that you should only do if your doctor prescribes it... The dangers are that too much water can be toxic to thier bodies... Yes, it is possible to drink too much water and actually become poisoned by it... The second issue is that if you give them water you are filling thier bellies with that when they should be filled with breastmilk or formula. You can try breastfeeding them a little if they get hicuups though... it works sometimes with mine.

I think that is pretty much it. I take care of my twins on my own 99.9% of the time. So any other input anyone has that saved them a lot of time and stress would be much appreciated.

The best thing I can tell you that will save your sanity in the long run is get them to breastfeed at the source (your breast). You will be amazed how much time you save in washing & pumping. If your babies are having trouble at the breast call the lactation consultants at your hospital...

My baby girl is extremely calm and easy but my baby boy is a FUSS POT and sometimes cries for over 2 hours straight at night- for what seems like NO REASON.
It's terribly difficult to watch him cry and know that there is nothing you can do to make him feel better!!

Have you tried feeding him a little more? My babies would do cluster feedings at night for about 2 hours and after that they were fine...

Oh and BURPING - is the most frustrating thing in the world!! AHHH

Seems like most of your questions have been answered in the previous posts.

    HARD TO BURP BABIES

One of mine was horrible to get to burp. Try laying him on his tummy across your legs and then move your legs up and down one at a time or move them back and forth to generate a rocking motion. This sometimes helps.

agree with PP's. I was told not to use bedtime product's at this early of age because their skin is too sensitive.
My DS was way more fussy then DD then they both were colicy and now DD is more fussy than DS...

I understand how it is.. I am full time mommy.. 24/7 get one night with help from DH and 1-2 days with dh.

It gets easier.. Just let your mommy instincts take over!

    They are beautiful babies!!
