    Hi everyone,

My boy/girl twins arrived Tuesday just after 5 p.m. I was exactly 37 weeks. They are Baby A, Kyle Lambert, weighing 6 lbs. 2 oz; and Baby B, Carly Ann, weighing 6 lbs. 8 oz. (The U/S) about a week before predicted "A" was 5 lbs. 6 oz. and "B" was 6 lbs. 8 oz., the latter being correct.)

A little background. The week prior to my delivery, I failed the NST and was sent for a BPP. It was noted that "A" had lower fluid than "B" and it seemed low but OK in general. Later that week I was back for an NST and U/S. The fluid around "A" seemed the same and the perinatal doc didn't seem alarmed. I didn't see my OB that week because she was at an emergency during my appointment, but another doc from the practice seemed to think it would be OK to not take any chances and get the kids out.

On Tuesday, I had an OB appointment, followed by my NST at the hospital. When my OB read my records from the week prior, she decided it was time to get the babies out. She sent me for an ultrasound to check the fluid again, and when it was lower, scheduled my C-section for later that day. It was very surreal.

Now, both my babies were head down, but I opted for a C-section since my doc gave me the option and didn't have a problem with the C. I didn't want to end up with both a vaginal and C-section, baby B was bigger and might have a minor heart defect and I had IVF so it wasn't a spontaneous pregnancy, which my OB cited as a reason for a C-section as well.

My C-section was scheduled for 4:30 that afternoon. They kept me on the NST all afternoon (which was draining), and hubby and I just watched TV, waited and answered the nurses' questions. They pumped me full of fluid and took blood. Hubby put on scrubs.

Finally, they walked me down to the OR, left my DH in another room and brought me in the room. It was different than I expected, not as white -- more grey -- and a few people were prepping all the equipment. I hopped on the table -- so narrow!!! -- and the anesthesiologist had me sign a waiver and started telling me about the spinal. It was exactly as your read, a stinging feeling, which was not bad, to get the needle in. They put me down on the table, did the catheter. It seemed like it was taking forever to get my legs numb, but they were.

After a few minutes, I kind of felt weird -- a little hard to breathe, lightheaded and hot. I told the anesthesiologist and the nurse and they gave me something and it went away. That was the worst part and it was only a minute or two.

The operation itself did not hurt. I wasn't naseous, sick or anything. There was pulling, a little pressure here and there, tugging, but no pain. The kids were out in about 10 minutes or so, one right after the other. My husband held one, the nurse the other, I got to see them and then they brought them into the special care nursery. My DH stayed with me -- I don't think he wanted any glimpse of the operation if he had to get up!

The putting-back-together process seemed to take forever. I did get my tubes tied, but the entire thing seemed to take a while but I'm sure it wasn't too long. Again, I felt nothing really.

Finally, they moved me to a bed, into recovery, where I stayed for maybe 45 minutes. My DH kept going back and forth between the babies and me. They were doing well and so was I. Again, couldn't feel anything. My legs eventually started getting the feeling back so they brought me to my room. My little girl soon followed, and then my boy a half-hour or so later -- he needed to be under the lights to warm up a little while longer after they cleaned him up.

I spent some time with them, we fed them, and then they went to the nursery for the night and I sent DH home. The first night was surreal -- I had the pressure cuffs on my legs and I got about 4 hours of interrupted sleep. Around 6:30 a.m., the nurse helped me get on my feet to a chair, where I sat for an hour. Then it was back to the bed to relax.

My parents, in-laws and husband all came in the morning, and that was actually the worst part of recovery -- my incision hurt the most that day, and by night it was less sore, and so on and so on. It's all the sensible rules -- get up when you can, move around within reason, etc.

I stayed 3 nights, but not 3 full days, before I was sent home yesterday with my babies. I sent them to the nursery each night to get extra rest, which was a big help. I'm also bottle feeding, so family and DH helped with feedings even in the hospital and now at home.

I was very worried about the C-section, but it really wasn't that bad. I actually have to stop myself from doing too much! The only bad thing about being home is that I miss my adustable hospial bed -- that was a help!

Thanks for all the kind words over the week. I'm so glad my two little ones are here, and we are trying to adjust to our babies arrival. My older DD7 is so happy and sweet and helpful. Life is good.

Congrats on your new arrivals.. speaking from past c-section experience.. definitely don't overdue.. let people help you as much as possible. As far as adjustable bed - can someone pick up a wedge type pillow for you. I found sleeping on that helped for the first week or so.

I remember missing that hospital bed too!!! So much easier on the abdominal muscles to use the bed to sit up!
