Hey I'm 30 weeks and a day. I went in for my appt and it went well I guess. He checked me and said... still looks good. I asked if that meant I was still thick and closed. He said Well you are a fingertip but you have plenty of cervix left so it's nothing to worry about. He did a fundal height and said I was big, I'm measuring 36 weeks. He said it's normal to measure about 4 weeks ahead. He still has me working <_< I am so ready to be done with work!

So my questions are..... Should I expect to be a centimeter at next weeks appt or still just a fingertip...... Has anyone else been a fingertip at 30 weeks, if so when did you deliver............ Is anyone else measuring 6 weeks ahead........ I guess that's it. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated!!!

Hi! In my first pregnancy, after about week 25, my fundal height measurement started measuring weeks ahead. By week 37, I was measuring 44. It turned out that it was just because my daughter was a pretty big baby. I ended up delivering at 38 weeks through induction (my daughter was 9.5 lbs). I wouldn't worry about the fundal height measurement too much - I imagine it would be off for twins.

At my last appointment at 30 wks 4 days, I was measuring at 38 weeks, so 8 cm ahead. The doctor didn't seem surprised or concerned by it.

I don't know about the fingertip!

I think that your cervix is thick is the most important thing. I was 1cm at 35w with DD and OB said that some women are just "open" during the later half of pregnancy; especially if this is not your first pregnancy. I would think that would mean a fingertip to a cm dilated.

Oh wow I never thought that previous pregnancies would make a difference in how fast you "opened up." If my doc had used those words I really would have felt better about all of this!

I'm almost 33 weeks and was in the hospital last weekend with pre-term labor after having a routine NST. A fingertip is about 1cm dilated. I am 1-2 cm dilated and about 90% effaced which means I could dilate very quickly. They have put me on meds to lessen the contractions.

Everybody is different, I've heard you can walk around for weeks being dilated at 2cm before you go into labor.

I was 2cm with no thickness left for 7 weeks, it sounds like you are doing great!

I usually measured about 10 weeks ahead. I know alot of docs don't do fundal heights because they don't really mean too much in a multiple pregnancy. They are usually used to ensure a singleton pregnancy is progressing as it should since generally they are not monitored quite as much as a multiple pregnancy!

    Congrats on 30 weeks!

I don't know anything about cervix dilation b/c my OB has not checked that yet. I am 30wks today. The last time cervix length was checked was in April u/s and was 4.3cm. When it comes to fundal height I measure huge....at my 29wk appt last week I measured 45cm. We are having a growth u/s and ob appt tomorrow so I am very anxious to see how big the babies are measuring. At 26wks they estimated Abby at 1#14oz and Jake at 2#1oz. But they have grown a lot since then I think. I am tremendously uncomfortable and stretched. I told the doc I felt like I was out of stretching room. He has always said our goal was to get to 36wks, but now he is hoping for 34wks since I started measuring so big. Can't wait for the u/s tomorrow and go from there I guess. I kind of wish that he would check me, just so we know where things stand. Maybe tomorrow...

Absolutely! At 30 weeks I wouldn't worry about this as long as your cervix is still thick. BTW I've been "measuring" 5-6 weeks ahead for what it's worth.

With my first I was 1 cm from 37 weeks onwards. I delivered her at 41w2d.

With the twins, I was a fingertip at 31 weeks (I had a heavy child before, a d&c and was carrying above average twins, so nobody was concerned). At 32 weeks I was 2 cm, 2 cm at 33 weeks, 3 cm at 34 and 35 weeks, 4 cm at 36 and 37 weeks, 4 1/2 cm when I was induced at 38w2d ... delivered 15 1/2 pounds of baby ... vaginally.

Just try to stay off your feet when you can, don't exercise ... that's basically what they told me. They didn't want me to into labor before 34 weeks, ideally not until 36 weeks ...

I still had more than enough length left, so there was no major concern.

I measured about 6-7 weeks ahead and @ 30 weeks I was 2cm and hospitalized for ptl so I'm no help there.
