    Hi,

My 2-month old, who used to be the better eater of the twins, eating 3-4 oz consistently at each feeding, has recently been refusing what I offer him (a mix of enfamil gentlease and breastmilk). I called the dr, who says that he's bigger now and won't always want to eat according to schedule, that when he was consistently eating before, he was eating to catch up. Jeffrey has eaten only a bit less than 2 oz since 2am. Yesterday and the day before that, during his afternoon feeding, he took a sip and then started acting up like he never has. I'm thinking either he's pickier now or is sick, although doesn't have a fever. I don't think it's because he's not hungry. It's 12:51pm already... He cried at the 11am feeding today to eat (at least I assume that's what he was crying for with his usual cry) because he's hungry, but took only a third of an ounce and then started acting up and crying... I tried using different nipples (latex/silicon)/bottles (gerber, avent, playtex drop-in) and also offering him separate breastmilk and formula... I still got the same reaction... I scheduled an appt at 4pm today just to get him checked out, even though the dr told me not to make a big deal out of it. The twins are my first, and I am just not used to the unusual behavior and am concerned. I don't want him to starve. Anyone experience this before?

    Thanks.

I know being a first time mom myself it is scary when they wont eat. Mine still go through phases (and they are 1) were they just dont want to eat. I know the first time my girls did it, I took them to the doctor and everything was fine. I think it is probably him just not wanting to eat but if you feel you need to take him to the doctor, then go. Better safe then sorry...

Yes! And it really sounds like reflux to me. Does he arch, fuss, push the bottle out while drinking? Both of my babies have reflux, and between 2-5 months were the absolute worst, they were refusing to eat quite a bit. I would call the ped. [IMG]

    Thanks for your prompt responses!

Recently, he's been playing with the nipple with his tongue. I'm not sure if he's meaning to push the nipple out, but he does. I don't pay attention if he arches, but he definitely fusses. In the past month, he has been gagging easily and spitting up large amounts, but I haven't seen him spit-up as much this week. I'll talk to the dr about the possibility of reflux maybe. What was the solution to your babies' reflux?

Often meds are prescribed. I hope you figure out what is going on, keep us updated!

I had a similar experience and we put the babies on Zantac. It worked wonders! Zantac seems to be the common med for babies that appear to have reflux. My babies were on it for 2 months, until about 4 months old, when I stopped using it because they didn't seem to need it anymore.

My boys are on Zantac for that exact problem! I would definitely see my pedi about it. And describe all the problems he is having eating, just like you did for us. I hope Jeffrey feels better and eats better for you soon. [IMG]

We have reflux issues with both of our girls...they are 2 months adjusted age as well. Our girls never spit up a lot, but I started to suspect reflux when they would arch and cry at the end of their bottles. Also, when layed flat on their backs after eating they would wake from a deep sleep and whine...sometimes they would spit up when this happened and sometimes the milk would just come up and not out. Anyway, they never fully refused bottles, but they did act like they were still hungry at the end of the bottle and it was hard for them to finish[IMG] We are now on Prevacid in the morning, Zantac in the evening and slightly thickened bottles (adding 1 tsp. cereal per 1 oz. to bottles). It has done wonders!!! To me, it sounds like Jeffrey may have some reflux issues, but you should definitely talk about it further to your pedi. GL and hope Jeffrey starts feeling/eating better very soon.
