Hi all! I had some really bad cramping last night for a few hours. I debated going in to l and d because it would be the 3rd time going in for cramps when all they seem to care about is contractions and then they send me home. So i watered (haha!) myself, took some tylenol (which didnt help but a smidge) and laid down in different positions. They ended up going away and I was able to sleep with just a little back pain here and there. When I went to the bathroom this morning I found some mucus discharge when i wiped (tmi sorry). I have never seen this before so I am thinking it was a little bit of my plug. I was 1 cm dilated 11/18 and 70% effaced but have had cramping and random contractions since (last night was the worst night yet). There wasnt any blood in it but I have researched and the internet says that it can be either bloody or not and labor can start within hours or weeks of losing the plug. I am thinking after losing the whole plug which I havnt yet. I am wondering if anyone out there has experienced this either in their twin pregnancy or other. I lost my last one before I was induced with my last son so I really dont have any experience to go by. Thanks for any posts!

    same thing happened to me
clear, jelly-like, thick... and lots of it... gross, i know
and it happened towards the end when i'd only dilated a little bit
soon after (maybe a week) I went into labor... but I was only 34 wks so they kept my in the hospital until it stopped (on brethine doses)
    don't be alarmed
    just get ready :D

Ah! Thanks for your post! Thats what I was thinking, but I didnt know if they would stop the labor. I guess they will stop it until 35 weeks. When did you deliver after they put you in the hospital?

Have you had any more mucus or contractions/cramping increase since? I was already dilated to 1cm so im thinking it is getting more dilated. My next apt is 12/1 so I am trying to wait until then to get checked. The l and d seems to be a waste of time for cramps. I will go in if I have contractions for more than an hour but I dont want to go in just to be told to go home and rest!

I am not as far along as you, but I *think* I may have lost my mucous plug on Tuesday. It was jelly-like and pretty gross. It wasn't streaked with blood either, it was clear. I didn't think much about it, but then it hit me that it was possibly my plug. I haven't had contx per se, but my stomach has been very sore and I ended up with a bad case of diarrhea last night. I think i'm going to call my OB just to be safe. I hesitate, b/c I was a L&D RN, but not working anymore. My OB knows this (I worked at the hospital that I will be delivering in) and I feel really stupid calling for something that he might think is silly. Ugh. I hope your babies stay put for a few more weeks!

I had the same thing happen with my DS. I was full term but I started losing my mucus plug on Sat had period like cramping all day woke up Sunday with more cramping and ended up going to L & D b/c I wasn't feeling the baby move a lot. Turns out the cramps were contractions and I was in the early stages of labor. Needless to say I was induced the next morning and right before they started the pitocin the rest of my mucus plug came out. So I would say you should prob have it checked out. Your cramps very well could be contractions.
I wanted to add if they are your first then it could just be how your early contractions are. Apparently in my family in the early stages of labor you don't get contractions so to speak but these cramps. Good luck!

Thanks for your story! They are my 3rd and 4th babies so I thought I knew a lot about having babies. However, this has been a whole different experience! I went in last weekend for cramps and they monitored me and said that my cramping isnt causing dilation (though I am dilated...ok...) and I wasnt contracting so they sent me on my way home with vicadin. I will go in if they are any worse with contractions

Darn, their after-hours message is already on. Not really sure if this would be considered an emergency or not. I guess I'll wait and see if I start contracting or cramping before leaving a mesage. The two other times I've called I've reached his partner who would probably be on again tonight with my luck. LOL

I haven't noticed any more contractions then i did last time and the only thing is my back seems to be hurting more then before.

this is my 3&4 baby aswell. i can tell you this preg has been complitley different, i wouldnt compare a twin preg to anythign. its like the first time being pregant , you should call you doc and get your app moved up. incase you are dialating more and need steroids , i think they are only good up to 34weeks not 100% on that though.
i have to see my ob everyweek , im 31weeks on saturday
i have had alot of discharge (changing a panty liner every 2hrs) however my plug is still in, its a hormon change,
it could be anythign, better safe and go to l & d than that your mind wonder, you know that will stress you out not knowing for sure
    and the stress wont help

My weekly perinatology nurse call lady told me if i had more discharge to go get checked out. I hate going in because the nurses and docs make me feel like there isnt anything I should be concerned about and send me home. They are used to having girls come in to deliver I guess. I just hate the warning signs list and phone calls and the getting a babysitter for the other two kids and going in at night just to be sent home and told to wait and see. UUGHH! But if i dont go in my peri nurse gets all mad. I just wish there was an easier sign of go in to l and d or not!!!

I had preterm labor and lost the majority of my plug around 29-30weeks when I was dilated to 2 and 80% effaced. HOWEVER, the plug will continue to reform itself so you may continue to have a lot of discharge until you finally have the babies. I ended up being induced at 37 weeks, when I showed up to the hospital I was dilated 5, 100% effaced and still NOT IN LABOR :) I just had to put up with the plug goup until then.

I was in the hospital for a weekend, and then I had them the following friday.... scheduled section after I kept going into labor on full doses of the brethine... my body wanted them out pretty badly i guess :)
