Yesterday morning after I went to the bathroom when I wiped I noticed a very small amount of pink on the toilet paper-such a small amount that I could have easily missed it. I decided that since I was feeling fine and not having contractions that I would wait and see if there was anymore throughout the day and if so I would call my doctor. There wasnt anymore. Then this morning I just went to the bathroom and when I stood up and looked in the toilet there was a large glob of mucus with some dark brown blood in it, sorry if TMI, but it was about a table spoon of mucus and more mucus then blood...has anyone else experienced this? Is this a signal for preterm labor?
We had a terrible icestorm last night and thankfully I took the day off from work as to not attempt to get out on the dangerous roads but as a result so did almost the whole town including my doctor's office. I did call l&d and the nurse said that I just needed to keep an eye on it to and call back if there was anymore.
What do you ladies think, should I be freaking out and driving up to l&d, or relax and see what happens? I will definately call my OB in the morning to get in and see him, but what do I do until then?

I think it sounds like you are losing your mucous plug- which could just be a sign that your cervix is softening or dilating a lot. I would keep your feet up today and rest and make sure you aren't having any contractions. I know you can lose your plug many weeks before you actually deliever- but if you feel ok with resting today I would call your doc tomorrow. If not you can always call your doc on call.

I agree. It does sound like your muc. plug. That's strange I was going to post a question very sim. to yours....I noticed yesterday an increase in discharge, but it looks like yellow muc. Not sure if that is normal? Anyway, try to rest.

Yes, it does sound like your plug. I agree with relaxing and do call your doc if you feel any contactions. You could still go weeks without it, but it usually happens sooner than that. Darn ice storm!

Just popping in from the 1-4 board.
I would suggest you get your cervix checked whenever you can. It sure sounds like the mucous plug which in itself might not be a big deal but you want to make sure it's not a signal of preterm labour or cervix problems. hope all is well.

i was gonig to say that too the plug since u are so far along; keep an eye on contractions and see your OB as soon as u can so he can check to see if you are dilated any. Rest up! it wont be long now til u are holding your sweet babies:)

I was worried that it may be my mucus plug-I know that it can still be a couple weeks before anything happens but even then I would only be about 33 weeks and that is just too early-I am pretty worried now and it really sucks that I am stuck in an ice storm and practically the whole city is closed including my OBGYN office!
I have not noticed any contractions, and if I do then I will be having my husband driving me in his big ol truck up to the hospital.
We dont have the nursery done-he is painting it right now as I type and we have no Christmas shopping done-this is just really bad timing, not to mention at 31 weeks the babies are not ready to come out!

just do your best to keep pressure off your cervix. don't clean the house or lift things... put yourself on bed rest if need be.... that's what I would do... besides also calling the hospital and my ob.

Keep in touch with the oncall dr's and keep track of any contractions, stay off your feet and your cervix. no bending, lifting, squating,....anything...

Not to alarm you but I lost mine with my last son (16 years ago) and had him 3 days later. So just watch for the signs of labor starting. I know many people that have gone weeks after they lost theirs!

oh and I had him at 29 weeks....he weighed 4 lbs and 10 oz....and is doing just fine !!! So don't be scared even if you do have them now...of course the longer you carry them the better...but they can do so much in the NICU!

Keep us posted, and good luck with all the ice!

You have been given some good advice. I would stay off your feet and definitely contact your OB tomorrow.

Not to worry you, but you can be having contractions and not know it. That happened to me with my twins and they were changing my cervix, but I didn't feel a darn thing, felt absolutely great in fact. Keep us posted.

I had the same thing happened to me, and I called in the doctor's office they had me come in to check me. He said it's nothing to worry about this type of discharge happens I was relieved since I had a cerclage couple days before that. You can call and have them check you to be safe. Good luck.

Quite a lot has happened since I first posted about losing my mucus plug-
I finally got a hold of the on call doctor at the hospital and she wanted me to come in to l&d asap to be monitored since I was having some mild cramps-turns out I was 3cm dialated and having contractions that I wasnt really feeling. So needless to say I am glad I went in. They performed that test to determine if I would be in labor in the next two weeks and it came back positive. I was admited in the hospital tuesday night and released thursday morning to home bedrest along with that horrible medication to keep the contractions at bay,my doc seemed pretty sure that these babies will be 34 weekers at the very most. Good news is that they are both doing great...I had a bpp sono before being released, and they were both heads down and taking practice breaths-I did get the steroid shots for their lungs, so I feel a little better about the fact that they may be so early.
I have a doctors appt on tuesday, hopefully there will be no change.

    Lesley Anne-
I'm on bedrest too and I've been doing all of my shopping online this year and I am pretty convinced that's what I will do forever. It's GREAT! We've just shopped for our kids, no one else expects anything from us this year - preterm labor definitely gets you off the hook big time!! For our folks I just did things with pictures of the kids, memory books I made online. My nursery is sitting upstairs not even started also, but I figure there will be time for it later. If we get it done before they come, great. If not, it will happen eventually. It is hard sometimes when there are so many things that need done and bought and made ready for the babies, but I keep reminding myself that the most important to get ready are the babies themselves :) Hang in there!

I am so glad you got checked out and you are okay. Try to keep positive. I am on bedrest too and as a previous post said...online shopping is wonderful! And the nursery isn't a big deal...it is really more for the parents than the kids (they won't know what it looks like). As long as you have the essentials, you will be fine.

Hang in there!!! I hope you can keep them to 34 weeks or more!!!

So glad you went in. That is great the babies seem to be doing good and that were able to get the steroid shot. Take it easy and just enjoy these last few weeks of them growing inside of you :)
