I've just been up with DD for a long time and she just now fell asleep. After nursing on me, she seems to need to burp but nothing is coming out. She has this gurgling sound in her throat and is giving herself hiccups. Every now and then she spits up a small amount and it seems very mucousy. This type of thing happens on occasion----any ideas on why sometimes she can be so mucousy/uncomfortable after nursing? Any tips on how you burp/sooth/get through something like this?

My son han has Laryngomalacia, which sounds like what youre describing. My sons version of it is very mild and my pedi said he'd outgrow it. He was diagnosed at 2 month and now at 4 months its almost completely gone, occasionally if hes congested it'll come back.

Many times if mine didn't burp after a meal they'd 1/2 digest the milk only to burp it up later. What came up was foamy, or like a roux sauce - looking to me. My kids were not easy to burp- burping in our house wasn't so much gentle as a vigourous pat. My dh came up with a way that worked better though- he'd sit them up and supporting the head with his fingertips and hands under the armpits lift them up 1/2 an inch and down again quickly. It was sort of like a bounce for them and they'd grunt a little when he'd do it. The benefit was they burped really quickly.
