We're moving tomorrow and we're nowhere done packing. I tried to do some today but if I move around the house and DD sees me, it's over. She wails. Plus today they moved the superyard SIX times to go play in front of the door, where they're not supposed to, took all the papers from the table and put them on the floor, and I found DS walking around with a large sticker he must have detached from a diaper box stuck to his shirt  Nevermind that I put a huge heavy box filled with box in front of the extremity so they can't pull it away from the wall... they just pushed the box away. At least they stopped doing that for a while and when we move we'll have a real configure gate attached to the wall to block off the stairs and the hallway.

So I had to move the superyard and close half the living room, and now they're contained and happy. Go figure. Although they're trying to move the other box that's blocking the other extremity to go out that way...

    <_<

Meanwhile we still have most of the kitchen to pack, shelves to clear, and I don't dare walking in front of the living room to avoid more wailing.

And I have absolutely no idea what I will do with them tomorrow when the movers are here....I'm hoping to feed them before they show up, but after that... dh will have to leave to put the dogs and cat at the vet overnight, so I'll be alone with the kids and the movers. Ideas?

we had this issue too when we moved...seriously we sent the kids to my IL's for a few hours, packed like mad men and then once they went to bed we seriously packed until 2 AM....

Do you have some family/friends that could watch them for you while the movers are there?

I'm sure this will be an issue for us when we (hopefully) move in the next couple of months! I am sorry your packing/moving has been so stressful!!

Can you find a nursery or daycare that could take them for a few hours? Can you hire a local teen to help entertain the kids for a few hours??
If not, then I suggest leaving out toys, and highchairs in one room, and if you need to, you can leave them in the room (as long as it is safe) if you need to do something else for a minute or two - or can you put a gate up in the doorway of one room to "secure" them while you deal with things for little bits? I would suggest clearing out one room and just leaving some toys and essentials in there, and that can be the kids safe play room while packing and moving is going on. No, they wont be happy stuck in that room most of the day, but they will be safe (I am not sugesting you leave them in a room by themselves all day), and you will have a place where they can safely eat, play and even nap (do you have a pack'n'play that you can set-up). Can you give them a basket full of new stuff to play with in there - like kitchen stuff or bathroom stuff they dont normally get to play with (measure spoons, cups, plates, bowls, funnels, magazines)

Good luck - you can do it!! It wont be easy, but its only one day out of your lives, you can do it : )

Fran, I hope everything went well yesterday. I was going to suggest if you had a neighbor or someone nearby that you trusted that could watch them for the day that might help out.

It was actually not too bad... They were in their high chair having breakfast for the first 45 minutes, then I put them in their stroller (inside, lol) with some plastic containers to play with. After an hour of that hubby came back and I just took them to the new place, which they seem to like! (they have more room to play in).
