When did your kids start to take only one nap? I have been putting them down at 8am until 10am and then again at 1pm to 3pm and then they go to bed at 6pm and are up at 6am. But now they don't want to take the nap in the morning so early, but are napping around 10am to 11am and then they don't want to take a second nap. They are in the crib right now playing and they will play for hours in there. So, should I try to keep them up later in the morning and see if they will take a longer nap? Any advice would be appreciated, I feel like they have been spending so much time in their crib. Thanks

Most kids don't move to one nap until 15-18 months. My girls are almost 15 months and still nap twice a day. It might just be a phase. I would keep putting them down at their regular times, and see if eventually they start napping again.

They are pretty young for one nap, I would stick with two, at least for a few months anyway. My babies are 11 months and have gotten 1 nap in a few instances due to sports and the older kids activities and they are reeeeealllllly cranky by about 5 pm. It's nice to just have the two breaks even if they don't sleep as much as you would like them too!

I agree... two naps is really necessary still for my boys...
Perhaps move the first one a bit later...
my boys wake around 6or 7 am and take nap #1 at 10:30 and nap #2 at 3:30
they go to bed at 8 pm.

I'm kind of in the same boat. My girls usually have 2 naps. They get up at 6, nap #1 is from 9-11 and nap #2 is from 2-4 and bedtime is 7. They are starting to refuse to go down for nap #2 so we were thinking about moving to 1 nap too.

A friend of mine told me about the 10 and 2 schedule, once they drop that third nap. No matter what time they get up, they are back down by 10am, unless they are really cranky for some reason. THen, they are back down at 2pm. It worked for my first, and my twins as well. If I have something going on during the day, then I try to make sure they either get the 10am or the 2pm nap at home, and then they sleep the other nap in the van. If I know we are going to be out during the afternoon, then I let them sleep as long as they want during the morning nap. If they miss the afternoon nap, then I make sure they go down a little earlier than normal that night, which usually, they are ready.
In your situation, I would keep putting them down for two naps...I think it is a little early for only one nap, unless that nap is for about 4 hours a day? You might try putting them down a little later in the morning, but waking them up after 2 hours max, and then putting them down again in the afternoon no later than 3pm. Even if they fight it the new schedule, stick to it, because it might take them a few days to get used to it.

My girls have been taking a shorter afternoon nap, but I did have to move their nap later because they wouldnt go down at 10 anymore. I moved it to 11 and we take the second one at 3 and go to bed at 7. It's been working well. The first nap is amost 2 hours and the second lasts for about 1 hour, sometimes 1 1/2. Hope this helps.
