[SIZE=12pt]We're moving into my parents' house this weekend, and I'm wondering if anybody has any suggestions for making the transition a little smoother... I'm hoping it won't be quite so bad since the girls spend a lot of time over there, but they're used to Grandma and Grandpa's house being a place to play at... They've never really napped well over there... However, since their cribs will be there, that should make it easier, right??? We're moving into their basement so the girls won't be as distracted by everyone upstairs, hopefully... I'd just like to prevent as many meltdowns as possible..

    Thanks!!

I think if you prepare your self mentally that the first few nights may not be smooth transitions- you won't get too frustrated. I don't mean to sound harsh or upset you- I just think when I have high expectations- they usually bottom out on me. Your kids will have to get used to it. I have a friend that has 4 kiddos under 21 months (triplets and a singleton). They recently moved and 3 of 4 of them sleep fine. So- that was good - maybe your will surprise you. And since they are sleeping in their cribs like normal- that is good too.

I would set up the kids area (cribs, toys, etc...) right away to make it similar to how it is currently so they have a sense of familiarness. I like the pp suggestion of not setting your expectations so high. Take it one day at a time and see what works and what doesn't. Good luck.

Try to stick to your regular routine. That is what worked for us in all three of our moves. Good luck.

Have someone (your parents?) take the girls for the day. We moved when my eldest was 2 3/4 and the twins were 6 months and it was ****! I would definately have the kids busy and away from the chaos. If you can bring them in when at least their room is set up then it's a bit easier. We also found taking our DD to our old house when it was empty to say good-bye to it and see that all her things were no longer there also helped with the transition. She still asked a couple times afterwards about seeing her old house but we reminded her that we no longer lived there and all out things were in the new house and she accepted that just fine.

We are currently moving as well. We've are lucky to be able to move over the last week and half. We are suppose to be fully moved in by Sunday though. We have taken the kids over there and "tried" to get work done, but with the twins being toddlers they made more of a mess and we had to do twice the work. Today DH's mother is watching them for the day, which should be a huge help. I've learned I have to relax. I try to stick to a schedule and have a list of stuff that has to be done by that day and it never works out that way. I've learned to just let things happen and try to get as much done as possible. Happy moving :D Good luck!

When we moved into our new home, we showed the girls their room and had them help put a few of their favorite books and toys in it to help give them some sense of ownership and familiarity.

We also find that if they nap during the day in a new room, it helps tremendously! They seem to be able to feel more familiar/comfortable with the room when it is dark. We first noticed this when we visited our family.

    Good Luck on your move!
