So my 18 month olds are not into tv. they dont do movies (unless of course we are in the car then they sign for them repeatedly).
With the new baby coming in 3 months...I would love to find a show that they could watch. Something to just give me 30 minutes a day to adjust to life with a newborn and twin toddlers.
To be able to make dinner or nurse the baby etc.
Anyone have any good suggestions on shows that their kids like?

My two love Sesame Street, Yo Gabba Gabba, Oswald, the Backyardigans. Sesame Street probably holds their attention the longest.

We're Sesame Street addicts here. I've also recorded Jack's Big Music Show because another music teacher told me her 15 month old twin boys watch it. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet though.

Yo Gabba Gabba is by far the biggest hit here! They will occasionally watch some of the other shows on Noggin, but it doesn't even come close to holding their interest like YGG does!

My kids were not much into TV either, and I had the same feeling! I felt a little guilty about encouraging them to watch it, but it was sooo nice when they finally started paying attention to something just long enough for me to get dinner on the table (like, 10-15 minutes). For us this was just before age 2.

The first thing they liked was a Sesame Street DVD called Learning About Letters. (They called it "Elephant Bird" because it has Snuffy and Big Bird -- they didn't know who any of the characters were.) That was all they watched for a few months, then they expanded their repertoire to Elmo's World and Blue's Room. They seemed to prefer things with live people and furry puppets/Muppets as opposed to animation -- they didn't get into things like Dora until more like 2.5.

They never saw Yo Gabba Gabba until recently (we don't really have cable), but have watched it with our neighbor kids a few times and are riveted.

My kids LOVE Laurie Berkner! I even love her! She has a DVD out... with a bunch of songs/video. You might want to look into that. My boys were just dancing to it earlier. Too cute.

But Laurie appears on Jack's Big Music show. That was a hit around here. It's mostly music and very very cute. I'm still upset they don't make the show anymore...

They still LOVE Baby Einstein-ones with animals and vehicles are their favorite.

On PBS, there's a show called Sid the Science Kid. My kids love that one as well. TOTALLY over their head-but it's really cute.

to this day my 3 year olds LOVE this video....Sesame Street was big at that age as was Word World....

TV is not the evil that some people make it out to be...I totally credit Sesame Street, Word World for my kids alphabet and number recognition...in fact my son has been reading words now for at least 6-9 months...Backyardigans and Dora and Diego are great for diversion (we've recently gotten into those since we moved several months ago) but the most educational stuff is on public TV - Sesame Street etc...

From age 1-2, my boys enjoyed pretty much anything on Sprout - esp. Sesame Street, Caillou, and Dragon Tales.

Noggin is now also a hit around here - especially Ni Hao Kai Lan and Dora.

Videos: Baby Signing Time is a huge hit!!

Yo Gabba Gabba! , the Backyardigans, and dog shows on Animal Planet are the only shows they will even glance at. They still won't sit down and watch, but they will laugh and point occasionally.

Jack's Big Music Show (and seriously they don't make it anymore????)
    Elmo's World DVDs
    Yo Gabba Gabba
    Sesame Street
Baby Einstein - they went through a phase of not watching, but are fascinated again

Oooh we LOVE Laurie Berkner too!!! Check and see if your library has her DVD. My girls also love Blue's Clues, but are only now starting to help solve the clues. Other favorites are Oswald and Nei Hao Kai-Lan (both on noggin).

We do Sesame Street and Elmo DVDs primarily. The babies really seem to like them.

We mostly do dvd's in the playroom and by far their favorite is Yo Gabba Gabba, but we too LOVE laurie! Jack's Big Music show is also a LOT of fun! Yes I watch all of these shows with my kids  The other all time favorite here is "The Best of Elmo"... Mine LOVE it!

I see NOTHING wrong with kids watching tv, what I find wrong is what they sometimes watch. I worry more about what my 9 year old is watching then what my 18 month olds are watching... And my 9 year old never watched tv until he was 4... Could not sit still long enough to watch ANYTHING!

My girls love Yo Gabba Gabba and Sesame Street. Pretty much anything with music they will watch, but for Yo Gabba Gabba they sit still the whole 30 min!

When I am home on the weekends with the girls I will put it on Noggin if we are in the living room and I'm trying to do things. They don't pay attention until music starts or Yo Gabba Gabba comes on (what is it about that show?!) Overall, they don't really watch TV either but definitely things with music.

Around 18 months, Signing Time was huge with them. Since you do signing, they would probably like it and it will reinforce the signs.
They also liked Blues Clues at that age.

i'm not a big fan of tv for toddlers, but i totally hear where you're coming from. if i need some time to get something done for 15 mins or so (that's all they can take, which is fine) i'll see if sesama street is on. if it's not, i'll put an 'on demand' episode of "yo gabba gabba." i swear that is the best show ever! dh and i just love it--i heard about it here. they have all these alt bands and some tv/movie stars guest staring and it's always a hoot to see who'll be on (same thing w/actors on sesame street, i've noticed. but the music's nowhere as good;)).

the twin mamas around here who've had singletons afterwards have been amazed at how easy the singletons are. i hope it's like that for you!
