As I do every night when I turn off my end table light, I "flop"onto my stomach. I think I have been doing this since I was a kid. I sort of jump flip onto my stomach. I am just about 13 weeks and not showing yet. This ritual of going to sleep didn't concern me until my husband commented last night, " I think you squished our children!" I told him they are protected by my rib cage at this point in the pregnancy but now I am afraid I really have SQUISHED them!

Any thoughts on the squishing flop torture my babies have been enduring?

BTW, I will not be flopping anymore whether it is safe or not ;)

I think I slept on my belly till about 14-15 weeks, when it started to get too uncomfortable (and I wasn't showing yet then). From what I've read, it's OK to sleep on your belly -- you're not really hurting the babies! But once you get the watermelon-belly, you'll be too uncomfortable to lie down like that, so enjoy it while you can! I miss sleeping on my belly sooo much ... A body pillow definitely helps keep you sleeping on your side. They can be big and awkward and cumbersome, but they really are comfortable once you snuggle in with it. I used mine briefly, then hated it, but now I'm back to using it and loving it.

BTW, why are you going on mandatory bedrest?

I was a huge belly sleeper and ended up sleeping on my belly until upwards of 25 weeks. I would go to sleep on my side, with pillows to prevent me from rolling over, and still wake up on my belly. My ob said not to worry, that it would soon become too uncomfortable. Darn it, she was right. Now I can only lay on my side, but I still tuck a pillow around my belly to try to trick myself into thinking I"m actually on my stomach, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Your body will tell you what is right, for now, sleep however you are comfortable, b/c sleep is such a precious commodity that you will miss later on!

I think it is okay. I slept like that until about 20 weeks. Now I sleep on my left side (OB orders) with a pillow under my belly. Very uncomfortable.

Even from the beginning I slept in whatever position was comfortable. At that early (13 weeks) I wasn't showing either so laying on my tummy was still comfy.

The link in the first response to this post has good information in it about sleep positions and pregnancy!

I just followed the link about sleeping positions. YAY it says I can sleep on my back. I sleep now on my right side resting on my belly (i'm 26 weeks) and my top leg tucked up over my belly. Then FLOP, left side, then my back, then FLOP right side again. I don't remember being this uncomfortable my first pregnancy. I mean it was only one baby then, but I went 42 weeks and I swear I am more uncomfortable at 26 weeks with two than at way overdue with one. Yet I am way smaller?

I miss sleeping on my belly! It'll be a while before I can do that again. I slept on my belly until about 12-14 weeks. Once I started to show it was too uncomfortable. If you can sleep on your belly without discomfort- go for it, because it won't be long before you can't. Your babies are cushioned very nicely in all that amniotic fluid, so you're not squishing them!
