My boys are 11.5 months and I am read all sorts of ways to go bottles to sippies and formula to milk. I am afraid to even start because our schedule has been working great for a couple of months. They are on 4 bottles (should be 3 by now) and 3 solids and occasionally a morning and afternoon snack if we are out. I wanted to get some thoughts on how to change my schedule to make this all happen. I was thinking of leaving the morning and night bottle for now and getting rid of the 2 daytime bottles...give them a snack and water after each nap. I would then attempt to give them milk in a sippy for lunch. So they would have 2 bottles of formula and a sippy of milk at lunch. Once they take to the milk sippy at lunch, I would work on morning bottle and then evening bottle. Any thoughts??? Do most kids have 2 snacks at this age and would you give them water with the snack or attempt a milk sippy?

Here's our current 'schedule'....let me know your thoughts.....

    6:00am 7oz bottle
    7:30am breakfast
    9-10:30am nap
    10:30am 4-5 oz bottle
    12:30pm lunch
    2pm-3:15pm nap
    3:15 4-5 oz bottle
    5:30pm dinner
    7pm bottle
    7:30pm bedtime

To go from 4 bottles to 3, I dropped the late morning bottle and replaced it with a snack like yogurt. They still really liked to have a bottle after they got up from their afternoon nap so for us dropping the late morning one worked well. We did sippies with formula during the meals or just water just to get them to take to the sippy. And once they did, I dropped bottles like crazy to get them off of them. The last bottle we dropped was the bedtime one and replaced with water in a sippy before bed but not until about 13 months.

FWIW we were still on 4 bottles a day at 11 months too. They were happy and so was I. :)

Thanks for your reply. When you dropped the afternoon bottle what did you replace it with. Snack and water or milk in a sippy?

I did a snack and milk in a sippy since I was technically replacing a bottle feeding.

Cheerios, puffs, yogurt, smashed banana and avocado, Chex cereal, fresh fruit -strawbs, bluebs, etc. Really anything that was soft, a finger food, and easily chewable was fair game at that age.

First we replaced the mid-afternoon bottle with a snack and a sippy of water. Second we replaced the mid-day bottle with a sippy of milk with lunch. After a LONG time, we replaced the morning and evening bottles with sippies of milk given at wake-up and bedtime. It was much more traumatic for me than them. :hug99: GL!!!

We are at three bottles now, they are 9.5 months. They have three 7 oz bottles. Here is our food schedule:
    7:30 wake bottle
    8:30 breakfast
    11:30 lunch
1:00 snack, cheerioes, puffs just started this
    2:30 bottle
    6 dinner
    8:30 bottle bed

    They nap from 10:00 - 11:30 and 3:00 - 5:30

We practice with the sippy cup every day, but not much luck yet.
