Now that we are 8mo old we can start a whole bunch of new foods! I use wholesomebabyfood.com as my reference for everything but I want to know what YOU had the best luck with when you reached "that age" (whatever that age was for you) when you started trying new foods??

I am excited about brocoli and pasta and meats. My girls love chicken (which I think is disgusting) and they hated beans. IF I continue the 4day wait rule then I can start another new food tomorrow. Not sure what I'll try.

What are some of your babies favorites? What were you most excited about? What have you not tried yet but cant wait to?

Too funny! I haven't tried nearly as much as you have..But we had chicken the other night-and gave the boys a few pieces- and they LOVED it! Nicholas especially! When we go to Italy though, I'm stopping the meat. I've heard too many stories of "Charlie the Chicken" that was there one day, and on the table the next. I am all set with that. They will have meatballs. That's it! Next time MIL invites us over-I told her she needs to make pasta and meatballs. I'm thinking they will REALLY like them. And since they were born-they've been dying to give them to 'em!

They LOVE peaches and pears. They do well with bananas too. And string cheese is good too. Oh-and I've also done some deli meats-chicken breast and turkey. Love it. I think I have mini carnivores too! We just did the grilled cheese tonight and that went well. For pasta, we did ditalini-which is great because you don't have to cut it up-and they weren't crazy about it. And I find that kinda funny seeing how they are 50% Italian! We did pastina at MIL's today-Anthony HATED it. HATED! And yet-she kept trying... <_< Anyways...

I bought two cans of beans(not even sure what kind). What do you do-cook the heck out of them, then give it to them?

I can't wait to see what everyone else posts! BTW-I just read your blog about the trip to the zoo. Too funny!

My boys are still on Gerber. <_< Whenever I try to give them anything different it's just a huge mess and I don't think they get any of it in their mouths. They've only had cheerios...good news is they love them!

    Be careful with tomato sauce!

    Nichole,

I gave up on the 4 day rule at 8 months...just couldn't keep track anymore. Here are a few things we're loving:

Lentil soup (I just make a recipe that I've always made, but I cut back on the salt or I buy Amy's Kitchen Vegan Lentil)
Tofu (just plain firm tofu diced, but I also made the tofu sticks on wholesomebabyfood...not worth the effort IMO)
Turkey hot dogs diced (All natural, veg fed turkey - no fillers)
Spiced apples (just dice up two apples and cook in a saucepan with cinnamon...cool and serve for days)
    Cheddar cheese diced
Beans (try a few more kinds...even refried)
    Avocado or guacamole
Gluten free toaster waffles (maple cinnamon is our fav, but we also like the mixed berry kind)

And our new fav.... Mango, Spinach, Banana puree...just like it sounds, blended with a little bit of apricot nectar or apple juice or water.

I started going hog wild around 8 mos, too, only around that time is when I stopped the 4 day rule. My boys did fine with it.

They love pasta (especially cheesy pasta), pancakes, waffles, grilled cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, chicken, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, rice, tuna, all crackers, all fruits, most veggies (lately they're on strike for veggies & will pick completely around them or pull them out of their mouth if I sneak them in!), & just yesterday at a cookout, we discovered that they LOVE baked beans (don't worry, I didn't give them a lot, but they were quite stinky the rest of the evening :)...hee hee)!

Things that have NOT gone well have been Lima Beans (well, Aiden liked them...Conner didn't, but Aiden doesn't count b/c that child will eat ANYTHING), any tomato/meat sauce (even the Gerber Stage 3s with tomato/meat sauces), & AVOCADO. I keep reading on here about all these babies liking Avacado so I went out & bought some. Mine HATED it. I mean crocodile tears-pursed lips-exorcist type head spin away from it-hate it. DH & I hate it, so I guess maybe they inherited our taste buds :).

Essentially, around 8 mos, we started giving them nibbles of whatever we had & they started getting the 'menu' at daycare. The more teeth they get, the better things get for me not to panic ;). I was even teased for cutting up their grapes too small yesterday, but it still makes me nervous. I love not doing baby food, but I miss the security of it!!!!

My girls love anything with cheese! Big favs when we started table foods (around 10 months for us) were rotisserie turkey breast, potatoes, sweet potato french fries, toast with cream cheese, and of course cheerios!

Can I ask why to be careful with the tomato sauce? I haven't heard anything about it. Thanks! Sorry to threadjack Nichole!

I only give my babies a "meal" for dinner - should I be giving them less baby food and more table food?
Mine don't have any teeth! Are you pureeing everything you give them?

For dinner they've had chicken and turkey (mixed with a veggie) and they love maccaroni and cheese and anything mixed with sweet potatoes.

I was so worried about giving Meara table food because she didn't get her first tooth until 2 weeks before her first birthday. But she did fine even before teeth- those gums are pretty strong! I started out with really small, soft bits and as she got better I experimented with larger pieces. GL!

Anthony has two bottom teeth, Nicholas has none-I give them everything. Nothing is pureed, or ground for that matter. I just give tiny pieces and see how they do with it. They do really well, I'm quite impressed!

You give whatever you feel comfortable with. I know sometimes I will do the finger foods, and Anthony(my eater), is not able to get it into his mouth fast enough he is so hungry, so I will do some baby food as well. And even then-that's not fast enough! ;)

My girls have only had puffs and some shredded cheese yesterday. I have done some fruit in the mesh feeders because they love fruit. I am still pureeing everything but I am getting more daring.

The thing with tomato is it is wicked acidic and can wreck havoc on the belly.

Before ten months is too young for most babies to handle the acidity of tomatoes. Here is a link. My sis gave my nephew marinara when he was 11 months and he got the worst diaper rash ever. Now at 14 months he loves it. That was just her experience. My girls are so sensitive to acidic foods and it always shows up in diaper rashes so I just stay away from it...

    sorry to hijack this, but.....

for those who have given mushy foods (mac n' cheese, cottage cheese, etc.), how do you serve it? put some on the tray, in a bowl,? do they do okay getting it in thier mouths or it is just a huge mess?

we are going to start expanding our horizons, but i wasn't sure of the logistics.....

I did cottage cheese and I gave it to them on a spoon. I had mixed it with some peaches and they gagged and made funny faces the first couple of bites then they were fine. After 3 days of eating it Maia decided she did not like it and shoved her fingers into her mouth and pulled it out! It was hilarious!
I tried american cheese this afternoon and Maia hated that too.

Cody loves all kinds of chicken. Toast with cream cheese, hot dogs, pigs in a blanket, lunch meat, bacon & sausage. Not liking carrots or yogurt. We will give him some of everything we are eating.
