Right now my Dr. has seen the membrane, so I'm diamniotic, but is only seeing 1 placenta so far. So this means they're monochorionic. I read in a book that this almost always means identical twins. Is this right?

As I understand it, yes. I have mono/di girls and we have been told by all medical professionals that they will be identical.

Check out your sonograms and see if the membrane forms a T-sign or a Lambda sign. At 13 weeks you should be able to see these signs.

If it is really just one placenta they are definitely identical. They only way the could be fraternal is if two placentas "fused" and appear to be one, but if they see one early on, sounds like identical.

Yes. I have MO/DI and a test done on the plancenta at birth confirmed that as well.
We had one placenta and a very thin membrane separating them.

I also had mono/di twins. . . saw the very thin membrane and one placenta. Yes, they are identical. We also had TTTS, and I would recommend making sure your docs are monitoring earlier and more often than with di/di twins!

Yes, that always means they are identical. Congrats in your ID twins!!!

Make sure that you read up on TTTS. My mo/di boys had a slight case of it and it was not detected on any ultrasounds that we had (even when my last one was two days before they were born). Make sure to keep on top of your doctors so that they are doing everything they can to monitor you and the babies!

    Congrats!!
