I am seeing a midwife, which is ok with me, but I am wondering if I should be concerned about a couple of things.

The plans as of now are, I go once a month til I am 28wks. I have a NF scan Friday, but no u/s's til my 20th week (mid April). So no measuring of cervix til then. Then I don't have another u/s til my 28th wk. After that I will have them frequently...but not sure how often. I go to seeing my midwife everyother week at 28wks, then at 34wks I go every five days to be monitored (NST I think).

Does this sound right, or do you think there should be more monitoring going on? I wish they would keep a better eye on my cervix and not wait 8wks in between u/s, especially at that point. I may discuss this with them when I go in on the 9th for an appt.

I would discuss your concerns with your midwife. I had my 2nd u/s at around 20 weeks, then not another until 26weeks, then 32weeks but every practice has its own way of doing things. I was not having any other problems and my 20 week u/s was great so that is partly why they did not do one more frequently.I did start NST and manual cervical exam every week at 30 weeks because I started to dilate. If you have had prior issues with PTL or short cervix with previous pregnancies, than they should monitor you more closely.

    Hi April -

What you're having is pretty much what I had. I had an u/s at 9 wks (which determined that they were twins - this is not standard, my OB does an u/s for every mom at their first visit). My second u/s was around 14 weeks where they did the NF scan. It's a pretty lengthy u/s where they measure the neck folds and check on the nasal cavities, etc. I had my big u/s at 20 wks (which told us that they were 2 boys) and then I won't get another until 28 wks.

They have not checked for funneling of my cervix at all - I asked my OB about it and he said that they will check at my u/s at 28 wks. I did request a physical exam at 22 wks to make sure that my cervix wasn't dialated - the OB will not have a problem doing this - it is their job! He found that I was 100% closed, so there aren't any concerns at this point.

If you're concerned about dialating, then you may want to ask for a physical exam to check your cervix. The only way they can check for funneling is via an u/s. If your OB feels you are in pretty good shape - no problems thus far, he/she probably isn't too worried about it and you shouldn't be either. Maybe to put your mind at ease, ask the u/s tech on the 9th if they can check for funneling and then also ask your OB to give you an exam.

    HTH!

it seems like a long time in between to me. My OB does a quick ultrasound at every visit and then I have gone in every 4 weeks for a full scan. Now I am going in to the peri every 2 weeks for ultrasounds.

I'm trying to remember but I believe we had u/s at 6.5, 8.5 and then 12 weeks with my OB. At 17.5 weeks I went for my first level II u/s with the peri and had one every 4 weeks to monitor growth. I started weekly NSTs at 30 weeks. I think I saw my OB monthly until I was about 24 weeks and then we switched to every two weeks and at 30 weeks I had weekly appts.

Thanks everyone for the information of how things went for you. I talked to DH last night about it, and I think he thought I was freaking out. I had to explain that I am just not comfortable with all the time in between u/s. If these are things that can happen, and are highly possilbe, then I want to stay on top of the game. 8 wks inbetween u/s is too much time.

I have an appt. on the 9th, and I will talk to my midwife about it then. I just would feel a lot better if I had an u/s or two within that 8wks. If everything is good...great! If something comes up, then at least we know before it is too late.
