Moms of Preemies

Just wondering what your preemies food schedule is? Our boys are turning 6 months(4 months adj) and theyre on oatmeal 2x day and 8 oz of formula every 3-5 hrs. We will start veggies this week.

 

My 31 weekers are now 2.5 years old, but I started them on solids at 6 months. They had rice cereal/oatmeal once a day at 5:30pm. I was probably way more cautious than I needed to be with food and did it VERY slowly. I would say that between 6 and 8 months, we transitioned from a 3 hour schedule (6.5oz bottle) with one solid feeding a day to a 4 hour schedule (8oz bottle) with 3 solid meals a day. Seems like your schedule is similar!

 

our girls just turned 4 months old (3 months adjusted) and they also just had their 4 month check up. The doc said they are in the same percentile as a normal newborn and that we can start them with rice cereal if we want to. So we tried tonight with a little and they did pretty good other than that we do 6oz bottles about every 4-5 hours.

 

my 34weekers didn't start solids until 6 months adjusted. We started with oatmeal, beechnut makes one with fruit and they loved it. I wasn't super great about solids. Basically once they were at the table with us they ate off our plates for the most part. I made alot of their foods and puree'd it but they were closer to 1.

 

Our little guys were 27 weekers and our pediatrician encouraged to start table foods based on their actual age of 6 months. She said that sometimes preemies have a tough time with new textures in their mouth so just to keep practicing...and we did and the boys eventually loved eating real food. Good luck!
