since birth i've been using vaseline under my son's scrotum and down to his butt. it's what we did in the hospital and what we've been doing since we've been home.

does everyone do this? is vaseline the best thing to use?

i only use desitin cream when they have diaper rash to clear it up, not as a preventative measure. i just pat dry their bottoms with a clean washcloth to make sure the area is clean and dry and only Ryan has one mild case of diaper rash since their first month (when they were still pooping every feeding). when my guys were about 5 weeks, we also did naked tummy time to get a lot of fresh air on their tushies.

I never did. I use diaper cream of some sort if there is any redness, otherwise I've always just left it alone. :pardon:

I've never done that and only use cream when there is a rash. I really like the Aveeno diaper rash cream.

I only use diaper cream, and powder in the folds. I have used aquafor if I noticed irritation.

I'm another I don't use anything and never had unless they get rashy. And then I like that generic triple paste stuff.

We're not using anything either. We did use vasoline around his circumcison area for only a few days while still in the NICU, but by the time we got home, it wasn't necessary. Haven't had to use anything on his bottom.

We only used vaseline for about a week when our DS was circumsized.
We only use a diaper rash cream if they have a rash.
Best Wishes with your new little boys :)

I also don't use anything. I did use powder on my first ds quite often since he had a bad case of diaper rash, but otherwise I don't use anything unless a rash pops up. I like the aveeno diaper cream too, and johnson's baby powder.

My pediatrician recommends Bag Balm instead of the zinc oxide treatments and it's all I used w/ DS. It works GREAT!

I only use cream if they have a rash. Van had a pretty nasty rash last week (because of some diarrhea) and I ended up using an anti-fungal cream because I'm pretty sure it was a yeast infection. The rash has gotten much better and I'm back to just diapering him without anything. I have found that I can't use cheap diapers on either of my boys. It doesn't keep the moisture away from their skin as well as the name brands do. Bummer, diapers are expensive!

I only use vaseline when DS has a diaper rash, thankfully he does not get them often!

Only vaseline around the circumcision for a couple of weeks and then nothing unless they had a bit of a rash.

We used the Vaseline after each diaper change until 2-3 months. It's what they did in the hospital and we thought it's a good idea to keep the area easy to clean (from poop) and we never had a diaper rash. Now I don't do it anymore, and everything it's still fine.

I use A&D for the overnight diaper as a preventative and Balmex or A&D to treat.

I will generally only use something after a poop. Sometimes I will use A&D or balmex at night as a preventative but not always.

We too used vasoline only on the circumcisions and that Butt Paste stuff for rashes. I use Bag Balm and baby powder on my 2 y/o when he gets diaper rash. It's the only thing that works on him!

My sisters boys would get worse (bloody, too) when she'd use desiten. Turns out they were allergic to the fragerance.

We use desitin almost after every diaper change, their dermatologist recommended it. They have had only one diaper rash and it was antibiotic related.
We don't use vasaline on anything...hate the stuff! Anything derived from motor oil freaks me out...

I'm quite a stickler for what I put on my body and my babies. We've banned vaseline in our house. Vaseline is a skin blocker and isn't very good for adults or babies. Desitin has parabens, which convert to estrogens once absorbed through the skin.

We use Avalon Organics diaper cream. It contains twice the amount of zinc that Desitin contains but it doesn't contain parabens or the other nasties that is common in many products. We only use it at night when the boys have to go awhile without a diaper change, or when they have a rash.

I use Weleda diaper rush cream, once my daughter had a rush, and i tried lots of different creams, and Weleda was the only one that helped, redness gone in seconds.

We used Aquaphor on any diaper rash (very similar to Vaseline) and Vaseline on his penis when he had a re-circumcision and for a period of time thereafter. Otherwise, I have not done anything every diaper change.

My boys poop constantly and they seem to get irritated easily so I've been using A&D with each diaper change as a preventative measure. I had stopped, but then I noticed that their little bums were looking red. For diaper rashes we usually us Triple Paste.
