Just wondering, when you have only one placenta, did your dr have a preference on how you were to deliver? Did they recommend c-section because of acute TTTS? Did you deliver vaginally? How did it go?

I'm just wondering because it's possible we could actually have an option since we may get far enough along to do vaginal delivery - but I'm not sure. How far along do you have to be? I delivered my DS vaginally (singleton) but I'm kind of scared of delivering these two vaginally - is this a rational fear? I guess I'm most worried about "one placenta" problems during delivery.

I delivered my TTTS survivors at 29 weeks via c-section. If you have been diagnosed with TTTS, I would not even for one second consider a vaginal delivery unless I had the surgery. Since there are already known venous connections, you have an extremely high risk. Personally, if I ever had ID twins again, I wouldn't risk acute TTTS and would schedule for a c-section at 34 weeks. Just my personal opinion.

I delivered my mono di girls at 34 weeks via c-section. Our girls showed signs of TTTS that eventually evened out so our docs said we could deliver our vertex/breech babies vaginally, but I ultimately decided based on what I knew about TTTS not to risk it and have them via c-section. I didn't go into labor - we had a lung development test at 34 weeks 2 days and when it came back positive we went ahead with the section. And the reason we did the amnio at 34 weeks was again because of the TTTS that the girls had showed earlier in the pregnancy - neither my DH and I nor or doctors wanted to chance going longer so long as their lungs were developed. They only spent 24 and 48 hours in the NICU (mostly for observation) and both came right home with us. Now at almost 6 weeks they are doing fantastic - 6+ pounds and keeping us busy. Good luck with your delivery!

what do your doctors and perinatologists suggest???... I think I would try to get a feeling from all of their opinions and go with that. My id. twin sister and I were born in 79...and share a sac and placenta... we were born vaginally... but then again the docs had no clue that my mom was having twins... So there are some cases that exist where things can go fine. But obviously it's a pretty serious decision..and one that needs to be evaluated based on your personal conditions... I'm not crazy about induction...but perhaps your docs would consider induction around 34 or 35 weeks to avoid later complications??

Mo/di, both were transverse and we had a c-sect

I delivered my Mo/Di boys vaginally. They didn't show signs of TTTS at any point and both were head down and ready to go. I delivered in the OR as is standard for twins(I think) just in case we had to go to section quickly. If everything seems normal and the presenting twin is head down, it can be an option. However, it depends on your particular situation and your doctor's experience/comfort level. My delivery was wonderful, but I would not have risked it at all if there were any complicating factors. Work with your doctors and go with their recommendations. I will say though, if you are feeling like you are being pushed into an unnecessary c-section, you can always ask for another opinion. Both of my doctors were very comfortable delivering twins vaginally (I asked for numbers and facts about previous deliveries) and each had a lot of experience doing it. Some doc's just aren't comfortable with it or the risks involved. You never know what will happen between now and then and you really can't plan everything anyway. Those babies have mind's of their own, you know! I pray everything goes well for you and the babies. Good luck!

Mo/Di twin boys delivered via C-Section. My boys were diagnosed with TTTS AFTER birth. My doctor sugested that it may be a possibility 2 days before my scheduled c-section so I made the decision to have the operation the next day. I was 35 weeks 6 days. Up until week 34, both my babies were in a vertex position but both OB and peri suggested I go ahead and have a c-section. They asked me what I wanted to do and when I told them the C, they both said "that's what we were hoping. The proceduer was so much easier than I thought but I must admit that I can no longer watch the C-Sections being performed on television. I have flashbacks and just get a really weird feeling. I'm really not saying this to scare you because it's not a big deal. But I wish someone had told me I might be a little squeamish about it afterwards. Good Luck!

    Mo/Di, delivered c-section. I personally wouldn't take the risk. :)

Mo/di boys were induced at 38 weeks (both vertex, no signs of TTTS or any other problems). I ended up with a c-section after 20 hours of labor and failure to progress past 8.5cm.

If both babies are head down and you have no other complications, there's really no reason (IMO) not to consider a vaginal delivery. I was at one of the best hospitals for multiples delivery (with a level 3 Nicu) so I was not too worried about trying a vag. delivery. However, if my boys had already been diagnosed with TTTS I would definitely have opted for a c-section. I don't think I'd want to take any chances. In the end it's really based on your comfort level with the Dr.'s skill, the quality of the hospital, and position and health of the babies.

    Good luck with your delivery!

Jenny, I decided on a c-section because of the placenta and possible TTTS. Even with the c-section, blood got pushed from one baby to the other. I'm SO glad I didn't have them vaginally because it would have been a lot worse for them. I think as far as how early they would let you deliver vaginally, I think that's up to the babies. My ob actually wanted to me have them vaginally (at 33 weeks) because I was in labor. Once I said, "no, Dr. Quintero said I could have a c-section", they didn't argue with me or try to persuade me otherwise (as they have been doing to a friend of mine). Personally, it was too much of a risk to have them vaginally.

Glad to hear those babies are still in there!

I had Mo/Di girls twins in May at 34 weeks 6 days via c-section. Our Peri said that was the best way to do it since we had had signs of TTTS. We did deliver early though because of pre-e

I have mo/di boys that were born C-section at 34 weeks. Baby B (Jayden) was transverse and had a major heart defect so there was no question about not taking a risk of a vaginal birth. They were also diagnosed with possible TTTS after they were born.

    Mo/Di twin boys.

Here were the peri's prefs: vaginal only if BOTH were head down. C-section otherwise. Carry for no longer than 37 weeks.

Here's what happened: i ended up needing to deliver early b/c of pre-e. Both were head down but when my labor didn't progress as fact as my pre-e developed, they took me in for a csection (that was 34w1d).
