MMR Vax Reaction?

Nate & Gabe had their MMR vaccines 11 days ago. They have both had fevers for the past 3 days. Today they both woke up with no fever, but Gabe now has a rash. Red spots all over his abdomen, groin and chest. Nate does not have a rash (yet).

I remember my ped saying they could get a reaction since it was a live virus...just curious if this is what a reaction looks like. The oldest never had one so I'm not sure what it looks like.

    Thanks!

Yes, sounds like the MMR. We had the same thing (only both of mine got it)

  3. It may be Roseola... my twins had that at 6 mo. You should only get it once, but it was a REALLY high fever (104.7) and when the fever breaks there is a red bump (sometimes lacy) rash over the abdomen....

Mine also just had the MMR and they bruised and got a little warm, but not as severe a reaction as you are describing. If you are concerned you should call the Dr...

They have already had roseola...I don't think that's it.

Thanks for the replies...I'm thinking/hoping its only a reaction but will call if anything changes.

I remember our pedi saying it could take up to 2 weeks for a reaction and would include a fever. :hug99: to your little guys.

Yep. It's a reaction to the shot. Both Gabriel and Sarah had them, Gabriel actually shot a 103 fever with his reaction. Sarah had spots that started on her abdomen and then spread out, she ran a really low grade temp, but was whiny and clingy for a while. My ped wasn't concerned, but you may just want to call and ask a nurse when/if you should be concerned...

Yep, that sounds like a reaction to the MMR. Jonah had the same thing happen. I completely flipped at first because I didn't know they could have a reaction that was delayed two weeks. The ladies at daycare called me (it came up there) and said they thought it was actually measles because it looked kind of like that. I rushed him to the ped and they said it's just a reaction. And, it's not an indication that they should not get the next booster. I asked because I was scared for him to get another shot of it. They said about 1 in 20 people have a reaction like this to the MMR. And, the next shot they get, the chance of a reaction is less (but unfortunately still possible).

Jonah didn't itch or anything. It just looked bad because it covered his neck down to his groin (but not his arms). Hope Gabe feels better soon.

Yep, Rhea, sounds like a reaction to the MMR. Mine both had the reaction at about 11 or 12 days. Fine red rash, felt kind of like sandpaper. They also had a fever, seemed to feel really bad & both had really swollen glands just behind their ears. The rash only lasted a couple of days but the crankiness stuck around for about a week.

Hey, thanks everyone for making me feel better. I did call the peds office and left a message on the nurse line. They never bothered to call me back, so I figured it must not be that serious... :pardon:

The kid wasn't too grouchy today, so I guess that's good.

My biggest concern was weather or not he was contagious to anyone else.

From what I have been told, no he would not be contagious. Evidently a reaction to the chicken pox vaccine can be contagious, though.

Ditto... I was told a rash can appear up to one month after the chicken pox vaccine.

Regan had a reaction to the MMR, but not Tessa. She may have had a low grade fever, but I never took her temperature. She was definitely covered in small red spots from head to toe. They weren't raised or itchy. She didn't act any different and it occurred at exactly the time the vaccine information said it might.
