I have held off giving the boys the MMR shot but they will be having it in the next few months. I was wondering if any of your kids had it at this age and if so, what were the reactions to the shot. Basically I am wondering how painful it was for them.

If I remember correctly, I think they both got fevers that evening which were around 100-101. We gave them some Tylenol and they slept in our room (I'm always nervous where fevers are concerned so I wanted to be able to poke at them every couple of hours). By morning they were fine.

Edit: We had ours done at their 2 year check up I think.

Mine are 2.5 and we have just started the MMR shots. We are breaking them up into 3 separate shots, and they need two rounds of each. They have had two of the six shots so far with no reactions. A few seconds of crying and no fever or anything afterward, but they did point to the injection site and say "boo boo" so I think it might have been a little sore.

Just an FYI that the MMR can no longer be separated. My boys are 13 months and we are looking to wait to 2-3 yrs old as well (unless they split them up again) and so I too am interested if anyone had reactions.

My two got them when they were 2 years old and other then a fever, they didn't have much of a reaction. I may have blamed some of their tantrums or fussiness on the shot, but that could have been a coincidence.

My older DS got his MMR at 3 years old (my twins will, too) and he did not have any reactions to the shot - other than huge tears when he realized that he was getting a shot. ;)

We are currently getting the MMR as separated shots. We have an appointment on Friday with our pedi to get the next Mumps shot as a separated shot. However, it is my understanding that it is quite difficult to find a doctor who will support and order these.
