It's time to get the girls vaccinated with the mmr. I'm very reluctant to do this because they have both been tested to have egg allergies. I met with an allergist for this and other concerns and we will be doing blood testing and then skin testing and maybe food trials to see if and what the girls are allergic to. He said he can do a skin test of the mmr and based on that determine if they can be vaccinated or not.
For those of you with children with allergies what have you done about this vaccination?
I don't mean to start an overall debate on vaccinations. That's already going on in another thread.
    Thanks so much.

You may want to PT Nifty--her daughter had egg allergies, and she had to wait to give it--it is an interesting story.

My DD had a reaction to eggs around the 5th time she ate them - nasty hives and wheezing. She had already had the mmr and it was not a problem. When we wanted to give her the flu vaccine, we had to take her to the allergist and they skin tested with that vile of vaccine. She didn't react so they gave her the vaccine and we waited - no problem. If she had reacted, they would have advised against it.

Owen had an allergic reactions to eggs when he was 10 months (hives, swollen mouth, vomiting). We never had him allergy tested though. Since then he's had products with small amounts of egg didn't have a reaction, so we felt it was ok to go ahead with the vaccine. He had his MMR about a week and a half ago and had absolutely no issues with it.

I would definitely do further research and your pedi should really be helping you out with this!!

One of my girls is allergic to eggs. She has not gotten her mmr shot yet at 19 months. The allergist said it was ok to go ahead with it, because the risk of reaction is so low, but we opted to wait. She tested positive for egg allergy at 12 months. The allergist said we could retest in 6 months. So our plan is to get her retested with the allergist, then go ahead with the mmr if she tests negative. If she tests positive, we'll have to discuss it with the allergist and the pediatrician. We did not give her the flu shot. The allergist and the pediatrician advised against it. I will say I am more for going ahead with the mmr at this point than waiting. It concerns me that my dd is not vaccinated for some serious diseases. But, as I said, I'm going to talk to the doctors more about it and do what we're most comfortable with.

My girls are highly allergic to eggs and they had the MMR with no problem. They did not get the flu shot since that is made with eggs.
