Okay so I am thinking this may be the right option instead of getting the hubby a vasectomy. I have read up on the web site about placement and procedures, now I want your opionions and insights. Do you have it? Like or dislike it? Any bad experiences or stories? Anything else? And how bad is the pain with placement? I have heard of cramping, but have also heard more painful.

I have one, and love it. It is so nice not to have to think about taking a pill and remembering to...

The insertion IMO wasn't that bad. It did hurt, and was uncomfortable, but nothing I couldn't handle. Also, it quit hurting only minutes afterwards. I went shopping after having it placed. I did take a couple motrins for pain management before hand. I am however still spotting though and it has been 5 months, spotting is normal though up to 6 months after insertion.

I don't have the Mirena, but I do have the copper IUD. LOVE it! Insertion was a bit painful, and I had cramps for a day or two afterward, but then you don't even know it's there. No spotting for me. Good luck, I think IUDs are a great option.

Did you have any trouble with the IUD and breastfeeding?

I got one at my 6 week postpartum visit. A little cramping when it was inserted, but nothing big. I didn't have any problems with pain afterward. I did spot for a few weeks on and off, and now occasionally I'll still spot. I am breastfeeding and haven't had any issues.

There are risks and nothing is 100%, but we aren't ready to decide absolutely not to more kids, but I didn't want to have to remember to take a pill, so this was a great option for us.

None at all! :) I got mine in the summer, and am still going strong nursing now.

I don't know how it would be with the Mirena, though. Mirena has hormones, Paragard (=copper T, the kind I have) does not. I'm a bit fuzzy on which kinds of hormonal bc can interfere with BFing, but hormone-free bc is a huge plus for me either way.

I have had mine--it will be two years in July. I really like it. My husband went ahead and had a v because we wanted to be extra sure we didn't have any surprises!! It was uncomfortable having it inserted and I bleed off and on for about a month, but after that I have very light periods and no cramping at all. I have never had any trouble and would do it again in a heartbeat. Make sure your insurance covers it because it is really expensive if it isn't covered. I have the 5 year. My OB recommended the five because some of her other patients had been having trouble with the 10 year.

I got the Copper IUD inserted at 6 months and for me it was fairly painful being inserted but the pain didn't last long. Nothing compared to childbirth or anything like that though!
I love it so far....no cramps but my period is pretty heavy. I like the fact that the copper iud has no hormones in it.

I had the mirena in for 3 years before removing it. It worked well. At first I had spotting, but eventually my periods were very light. It also was very effective in preventing pregnancy! You can also get pregnant right after removal, (if that's your choice). It was a great alternative to anything permanant. (However, now after 5 kids and twins--I made a permanant choice--a tubal.)

I have one and love it. I had mine done 6 weeks pp, no issues breast feeding. There was some cramping when I had it placed but an hour later, nothing. I do have a period now, was hoping it would stop but it didn't.

I loved loved loved mine!!! I tried the copper T kind first and had horrible, heavy periods for a year. Then I got it switched to the mirena and my periods stopped all together. It was awesome! I'd still get a headache and zits at cycle time but no bleeding or cramps.

The insertion wasn't too bad. The worst was the big speculum they have to use to get a good view. I was crampy afterwards for that day then fine.

I'm going to get it put back in as soon as I can after delivering.

I forgot to add that my midwife did caution me that some women take a long time to conceive after having the mirena removed. Even up to a year. We ended up waiting that long anyway and had no trouble obviously!
