    Hello Ladies,
My DS has been taking this daily for 8 months. If he doesn't take it, he will immediately get constipated. I have increased his veggies, water and decreased pastas, cheese, etc. I have to keep rescheduling his appointment with the Gastroenterologist.

I wanna make sure it is not thinning his stomach lining. Anyone else's kids take Miralax?

    Hi

My daughter Emily started taking Miralax recently. She is 2 1/2.

She has constipated since she was little. The ped told us to start with a 1/4 tsp and adjust as needed. It really helped. She was potty trained around 26 months, but then had a bad time trying to poop and she hasn't gone on the potty since. We started Miralax after that.

From what the ped told us it is very safe and ok to use. Emily also eats every kind fruit and she would eat a ton a day if I let her and that still doesn't help.

They said it help things become a little softer and make it easier for her to go.

Good Luck. My sister knows a few kids in daycare that are under 1 yr and they are on it too with much success.

we have dealt with severe constipation since the girls were born. I only give miralax when things get bad, but for the last 6 months we've had things pretty under control. I put 2 TBS of benefiber in their milk each morning, and they have PlumSmart, digestive health juice daily, about 5 ounces mixed with water. This juice has been amazing for us! I totally suggest trying it! Also, we completely avoid bananas and rice..

One of my girls has been on and off Miralax for over a year now. I actaully weaned her off of it quite a few months ago and she was doing really well till this past week. She gets backed up because she holds it. Then it hurts and she holds it more and it becomes a terrible cycle. So I just started giving it again and she is good again so I will start reducing how much I am giving her.

She has never had any side effects from it.

My DS does the same thing. We have been on Miralax since April. I have tried multiple time to ween him off, but as soon as we get off of it, he holds it again and the cycle contines. So, he is now taking 1 tsp a day. Hopefully, he won't be on it for too long, but the pedi said that it is not something that can hurt him from taking it too long.

Camden has been on Miralax for over 2 years. Our pediatrician prescribed it (before it was OTC) and we have seen a pediatric gastroenterologist about his constipation issues. Our pedi gastro said his daughter is also on Miralax and has been for 6 years. She was using is regularly at first but now it's only on an as-needed basis. He said it was completely safe to use over the long term. We still give it on a daily basis but we have cut back on the dosage.

Our biggest problem at first was controlling the amount. He was getting a cap full a day and sometimes he would still be constipated and sometimes he would have explosive diarrhea. It was horrible. I'm so glad those days are over.

FWIW...our pedi recommended all of these diet changes which didn't help. We went to see the gastro and he suggested not withholding anything from him...let him eat all the cheese, bananas, yogurt, whatever he wants.

Good luck! If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me!

My first son was on it from the time he was 15 months until we weaned him off around 3.5yrs old. He once in a while has some issues with constipation still but at 5yrs old understands that he is at fault if he chooses not to eat his veggies and fruit or drink enough water.
The twins are 2.5yrs old and one of them needs it regularly since he was around 2 or so. The other has a dose once in a while when he is having any problems.
We have never had any side effects at all.

Savannah took this from 2 months until about 7 maybe 8 months.... She did fine with it and is off of it now. I might start Beau on it beause he eats so much cheese! ;) I think some kids just have more issues than others. :) Good luck!

I am having the same worries and just recently made an appt with the gastro. for next week. Noah has been on it since he had perianal strep which was about 5-6 months ago. He would hold it and try not to poop and sometimes scream and sometimes he wouldn't. I don;t know the actual dosage but my pedi said to fill the cap up to half way up to the ridge in the middle of the cap. I give him that every other day and I don't see him trying not to poop. We'll be seeing the gastro doc next week to see what long term effects this might have or if there is anything else we should do. Noah LOVES fruit as well and would eat it until he threw up probably. My pedi said it's ok. He doesn't eat veggies so that doesn't help.
I'll let you know what my gastro says.
