Mine, mine, mine

In the last week, my girls have learned the word 'mine' and it is driving me bonkers. On Wednesday we had friends over who have a 15 month old boy, and Cricket refused to let the poor kid touch a single toy. Every time he looked at something for more than a second, she would run over, grab the item in question, and yell "NO HAYDEN TOUCH. DUCKY IS MINE" or "GO AWAY HAYDEN. THAT MINE!" I spent most of the visit trying to calm her down and explain that when she has friends over, she needs to let them play with her toys. In the end, she humored me, but muttered under her breath the whole time that things were "mine, mine, mine."

And the fun has continued. This morning Piper and Cricket had a shouting match about a doll, each one screaming "THAT MINE! YOU NO HOLD! MY DOLLY! MOMMY!! CRICKET (PIPER) NO TAKE MY DOLLY!" I kept waiting for them to start slapping each other, but fortunately it didn't happen, and I decided the doll needed to go take a nap.

So just you all wait... this talking thing is fun... but oh man. I am not prepared for the MINE phase.

    Go turn on Finding Nemo.

Then tell your girls that they're not seagulls. :)

I used to say "You have NOTHING!" "It is all MINE!" They'll get over it to a degree!! They will always have MINE issues, but it will lessen!

If it makes you feel any better, we've had "MINE!" for some time now, but not too many other words -- so we hear that one a disproportionate amount of time, LOL.

I think sharing is a really hard concept at this age....but, our kids are forced to share before they're ready, just because they have a twin. So maybe ownership of something becomes really important.

Okay, now that I'm done playing armchair psychologist -- I empathize!

 at this point I'll be so glad when mine start talking that I don't care if they fight all day long if I just knew they could talk!

 Imagining her muttering "mine mine mine" under her breath made me laugh!

We're seasoned experts in the "mine" stage. It seems to ebb & flow for us. Sometimes it' much worse & more intense than others. It's annoying at times, but for us, not the worst stage. I'm suffering at the hands of their terrible tantrums right now.
