I had my Mina and Jude on June 19 through c-sect and they are doing pretty darn good after jaundice and pinkeye but healthy. They were born at 4lbs, 15 oz and 5lbs, 11oz at almost 37 weeks.

I'm recovering from the surgery and am wondering how long my belly is apt to look pregnant. Please share your recovery experience as I'm anxious to get back to normalcy and enjoy my babies, boyfriend and drive again! I'm one of those impatient people who can't stand to be incapacitated very long. The pregnancy went well considering how big I was but I feel I've been immobile for so long! I know c-sect recovery is 6 weeks long but really, how long does the bleeding and the big belly last???

    Thanks for sharing your experience!

It totally depends on the person. At 1 mo I was doing great. I stopped bleeding at like 2 weeks and by 4 didn't look pregnant. Not to say I was skinny but... At a month I felt recovered.

My boys are 7 weeks and I still look about 5 months pregnant. I had a c-section too with them. And I've noticed it's taken alot longer for my body to heal and get back to being somewhat normal. However I am sure I have a lot of work ahead of me to lose the remaining 50lbs, which is my goal.

Well 6 weeks sounds about right. I think I bled for 5 weeks but everyone different. The belly will unfortunately never be the same again but your uterus should be down to it's normal size by 6 weeks, 8 weeks at most.

    Congrats!!!

I looked prego about 2 weeks. By the time a month had past, I was back pretty much to "normal" and by two months, I looked better than I did pre-pregnancy.

Laurie, congrats on the births of your babies! I'm so happy to hear they are doing so well. :hug99:
I agree with the previous poster that everyone is different in the amount of time it takes their body to get back to somewhat normal. For me, my belly went down {at least down enough to not look pregnant} about two/three weeks after their birth. Though it's two years later, and I still {and always will} have a bit of skin left over. I bled for exactly six weeks. For the most part, I was able to do everything like before after two weeks. I did wear a girdle looking thing that the hospital gave me for support and I do think that's what helped me. Good luck!

I was mortified when I saw how awful my belly looked after. I didn't think it would be possible to get back to my pre-pregnancy body, so my biggest goal was to at least look decent in normal clothing and to no longer look pregnant. I'd say by 2 weeks it was much easier to get around and feel more normal. I started walking around 4 weeks and running around 6 weeks. I think I drove a few times around 4 weeks, even though I wasn't sure if I was supposed to until 6 weeks or not. By 6-8 weeks my stomach started to look better and I started to feel relieved that maybe it was possible to get back. At three months I can wear most of my normal clothes - ok not most, but some (I think the problem is I was too small to begin with and my hips have moved/body has changed). My stomach is flat in the mornings, but gets bloated after I eat throughout the day. I'm currently reading some books to find what type of exercises I can do to strengthen the muscles back to hold everything in place. Depending on how much your muscles have stretched, regular ab exercises (crunches) can actually make the problem worse. That's why I haven't done any yet until I figure out the right way to do them.

oh, I think I stopped bleeding around 7 weeks.

    Congratulations!!!!

As other posters have said, everyone is different. My belly went down about three weeks after birth and the bleeding stopped for me around 4 weeks after birth. I think by the time I had gone for my 8 week follow up, I had lost all the pregnancy weight except for 5 lbs. Still have the "twinskin", though.

About three weeks after birth, I really started to feel like my old self in terms of getting around the house and doing things!

It totally depends! I have diastasis- where the ab muscles separate, so it took me longer. I started doing the exercises (you can only do certain ones) and now my belly is looking better, and less pregnant. But at my 6 week appt. I still looked pregnant and that is when I found out about the diastasis. Give it a few months. I know it's hard, but try not to worry about it.

    Congratulations on the babies!!!!

Well I do believe everybody recovers differently and I think it really depends on how much time you give your body to heal by taking it easy. It was really hard on me even though I tried to take it as easily as possible. I would say it took about 6-8 weeks for my stomach to go down although I still need to loose about 20 pounds, it did go down. Just to let you know I only bled while I was in the hospital...once I came home I haven't bled since.

My bleeding was really heavy for like 5 weeks and then tapered off and stopped at 9 weeks. It sucked. I feel like I still look pregnant, so I'm not much help there, although I did lose 65 pounds in the 3 weeks after I delivered.

Congratulations! It took me a long time to recover from my c-section. I took pain pills for at least 3 weeks and my doctors told me to even though I was pumping. My belly went down over about 6-8 weeks, and the bleeding stopped around 8 weeks too. Give yourself time and lean on others while you heal. :hug99:

I bled for about 6-7 weeks. It got lighter and lighter as the weeks went on. My belly went back to "normal" after 6 weeks. I lost 47 pounds in 6 weeks. 2 pounds more than the weight I gained in the pregnancy. I was breastfeeding/pumping during this time too. My belly is still a bit "floppy" but it's not that bad. I was expecting a disaster area :) I was in my jeans that I wore before pregnancy at about 6 weeks. I just have to start the sit-ups to try to get my stomach back into shape. Now..finding the time to do that:) I felt that I could drive and perform normal every day things at about 4 weeks.
    Congratulations on your new additions!!
