So-since my boys have been on whole milk(about a week since we finished last can of formula  ), they seemed to be sleeping LONGER. Now-tell me why?!!? And I will say-they RARELY, if EVER, finished their formula bottles-I ended up cutting back to 6 oz during the day(instead of 8oz) because they NEVER finished them. So they were getting no more than 20 oz of formula/day. Give or take.

Fast forward to milk. They get 8oz in am, 8oz in afternoon, and 8oz at night. And they CHUG it. ALL of it. Not a drop left! Can you believe that?? And-they go to bed at 7pm...and wake up 12 hours later! It used to be 11 hours..but I have been waiting for a 7am wake up for almost 12 months now! And as far as their napping goes...they are taking longer ones as well! It ranged from 45 minutes to an hour TOPS. Drove me nutty! Now? Usually a good 90 minutes-which is fine with me!!!

So-coincidence? Anyone else notice a difference?

Oh-and how much milk should they be getting? Right now they get 24oz milk/day. Once we are done with bottles(hopefully in a week), I would guess the consumption would go down, as they will just be getting it with their meals.

When the twins I took care of switched to milk they loved it. I'm not sure if they slept better, but they certainly drank a lot more (I never heated their milk up, I just served it cold). Good luck with the sleeping, I hope it continues!

    Yipee for better sleeping!!

My pedi told us at our 12 month appt that once we were fully on milk that the volume should drop to 16-20 ounces a day b/c milk does not have as many nutrients as formula and they need to make up for it by eating a variety of solid food.

We were told a max of 25 oz a day and my boys are tiny!

I'm going to guess that the better sleeping is due to better napping. Mine always STTN when they take two good naps.

Oh Meaghan, again I'm jealous!! I wish my girls would sleep longer!!!

As for the milk, all the research I have done says no more than 24oz a day as it affects their iron levels.

I hope this is not a fluke and that my girls will follow your boys' lead!!! ;)

(btw, 9 more days!!! )

9 days...YIKES! There should be a ticker on the top of the page for our kids! LOL!

OK. So we are ok with the milk amount now. DH does 8oz/bottle, I do 7oz/bottle. We see the pedi next month and I will be sure to ask. My boys have been on mostly table foods since 9 months or so-so we got that under control!

Milk tastes better! Seriously -- who wants to drink formula? Yuck. :)

I've heard from 16 to 24 oz. a day of total dairy is sufficient, so if your guys eat a lot of yogurt and cheese, then they really don't need 24 oz. of milk...

But, anywhere in that ballpark is fine!

i haven't started milk yetbut mine have started to sleep a littel longer, and their naps have improved greatly this past week, as well. so it may be their age? i was told they may start to sleep a little longer when they're older...

Yes-that and maybe they are moving much more? Whatever it is-I will take it!
