    Hello,

Just curious as to what kind of milk your kids drink and how old they are. Mine have been on whole milk since their first birthday. I currently buy 1% for DH and I and whole for DS & DD. I know that whole milk is good for brain development. How long will they be on whole milk? When can I get the whole family on one type of milk (even if it is 2%)?

I look forward to hearing from you!

My girls are allergic to dairy so they drink rice milk. But before we found out about the dairy allergy, our pediatrician told us they should be on whole milk until age 2 and then to move them to 1%.

We were told at 2 they could switch to 2%. However, we still have them on whole milk at this point, they are 27.5 months.

I plan on switching mine to skim after their 2y/o doc visit, it will be so nice to only have to buy one tyope of milk.
Currently we drink skim and they drink whole milk.

We all drink whole milk. I tried getting 2% for me but I'd just end up getting everyone's moo-juice confused.

We wanted to switch to 2% after they turned 2, but the ped suggested we stick with whole milk because they are very low on the weight charts-3rd percentile and 8th percentile.

We were told normally around 2 you can switch, but our dr also advised against it right now b/c of their smaller sizes.

My son (he's 21mths) drinks 2% milk and has been for a few months now. He is tall for his age and is average for weight but he is a very good eater and eats a lot of other dairy foods, so we really weren't worried about the fat since he gets it in other foods. After his 2yr apt we will decide whether he will go to 1% like the rest of us or stay with 2% for longer. My girls I give either 1 or 2%, it just depends what I grab out of the fridge for them but dh and I both drink 1%.

I buy whole milk for all of the kids(my dh and I don't generally drink it). When I switch the twins to 2%(not anytime soon, they are peanuts!), I will switch us all.

My two drank breastmilk (nursed) until they were 25.5 months. Then we moved them to 2%. At three they will drink what we drink (1%).

My pedi said whole milk through age two, then he had us switch to skim. DH and I also drink skim, so it's nice to only buy one variety.

Ditto to this. We just went and when I asked if we should switch, she said we didn't have to. She didn't insist we stay on whole, but did not agree that we needed to move to 2%. I'll ask again at their 2 1/2 appointment.

My girls still get organic whole milk. I don't plan to switch to 2% until they are at least 3.

The boys and I drink organic, whole milk (I HATED milk my entire life, but when I got pregnant with them I CRAVED it night and day. My docs put me on whole milk trying to initiate better weight gain, and I haven't bothered to go back ). My boys are still in the 5-10 percentiles for height and weight, so I see no reason to bump them down just yet.

    DH drinks organic, skim.

Mine drink organic whole milk for the most part, even though I find it very expensive. Whole milk is apparently best until age 2.

We were also told whole milk until 2. After that, I will switch them over to 1% since that's what I drink.

As PP said, whole milk unitl 2- but since my girls are small...they are still on it at 31 months (and advised to be until Pedi says so). DH and I buy skim.

The girls actually like finding the 'color' milk for each of us...they know Mommy and Daddy drink pink and they drink blue (cap color).

Since all the kids are small, they all get whole milk. Dh and I drink 1%. I will occasionally give the lower fat milk to the older two if I'm low on whole milk.
