is the temperature of formula or EBM purely a matter of taste? does it matter if your babys bottle is cold or warm? does temp have an effect on the baby?

We warmed them when they were little since we made bottles ahead of time and put them in the refrigerator but then quickly went to room temp when using powdered formula. Then at about 8 months we went to making a days worth in the fridge and they would drink them cold. I think its just personal preference.

I think it's just whatever they are used to. At the end of my girls first year they would drink it right out of the fridge.

I agree with Aimee, it is whatever they are used to. When they were little, we would warm the formula and towards the end of the FY, they got it cold.

Whatever they like is fine. Most babies seem to be soothed by the warmth of the milk but if they like it cold, less work for you!

I think it is whatever they prefer. My babies don't like cold milk so we warm them (we premake formula so it comes from the fridge). But with ds1, he was drinking it cold by the end of the FY.

My boys got room temp from the get go and the BM was not heated very much. By about 4 months they were fine with drinking it from the fridge but I noticed they drank more if it was room temp. Even now my kids will not eat food unless it is room temp. Anything else is "HOT, HOT"!

I know with DS #1 we made the 'mistake' of doing bottles warm and then we always had to find warm water when we were out, especially at the airport or on the plane, which made me so nuts. For the twins now I try to do them semi warm/room temp but I know they would probably prefer them warm warm. I never could get DS #1 to do cold cold milk until we switched to real milk.

(I realize I now talk like a toddler....warm warm and cold cold...oh where has my life gone?)

I also warmed my older dd's bottles really warm and then struggled to find a place to warm them when out and about.

I do warm the babies bottles but not near as much, just to knock the chill off (we also put the jug of formula in the fridge), and then just use the room temp water when we are out running around. They don't like the room temp and tend to fuss a bit more, and don't drink quite as much, but that's just something they'll have to learn to deal with ;)

Sometimes too cold or too warm bottles will bother a babies reflux, but that really varies from baby to baby.

We make the bottles in advance and put them in the refrigerator… If I feed the boys they get cold bottles straight from the refrigerator, if my wife feeds them they get warmed bottles. They don’t seem to mind either way.
