OK, so I get home today and the boys are drinking from their cups as usual. I notice they were close to empty and opened them up to refill....I noticed it was milk, thought that was odd because they usually drink water during the day (for the most part). I call my step father as he was watching them today and ask how long it had been in their cup. ( I feared that it was still the same milk from this morning...) He said he wasn't sure...Make a long story short, it had been in their cups since around 1 o'clock and this came about around 5:30 pm.

Now, the question is....Should I be worried that it will make them sick? How long can milk be unrefridgerated before it goes bad?

I've read before that 2 hours at room temp is the max. Wish I could offer some more advice about whether or not it would make them sick.

Pretty sure it would taste sour before it got to the point that it would make you sick and 4.5 hours isn't THAT long when you consider that it was pasteurized.

I'm sure it will have no ill effects. Try not to worry.

a third vote for not worrying - they'll be fine. i think it would have to be out overnight at least before it was a problem.

I have a friend who worked in a bakery and they didn't really refigurate milk or eggs, especially as cold as the typical 40 degrees we have set the standard as--it's overkill. Please don't be worried, a few hours at room tempature is perfectly fine, it's not spoiled.

    That's what I think too.
