Once we transition fully to milk do they still get four "bottles" a day? We are still working on sippies. My point is though... is that too much milk? That would really stop me up. How much milk do they need? how much do/did you serve right at one year old?

I would check with your pedi on that...the reason why I say that is because my two were skinny minnies at 12 months and our pedi wanted us to make sure that they got 24 oz of milk or dairy products (yogurt, ice cream, cheese, pudding)...I believe the recommendation is 16 oz but I would double check with your pedi on that.

At our 12 mo visit uur pedi told us 16 to 24 ounces of milk per day is the recommendation. Both are still on bottles - 4 a day! They'll drink from the sippy but don't get enough fast enough. I would say that mine are getting WAY more than the recommended amount. The pedi recommended that if they wanted more milk than their allowance that we give them water so they also drink about 8oz of water a day.

They also give them 3 meals and 2 snacks each day and they eat like they haven't eaten in days. Since both are still underweight I'm just not worrying too much about it right now and I'll revisit with the pedi at the 15 mo visit.

Wow... that was quite a ramble. Hope that there is something helpful in there for someone. At the very least know that another family struggles with the milk issue too!

My ped also recommended 16-24 ounces per day; we transitioned to sippies at the same time we started giving them milk. My guys were drinking quite a bit of milk (we don't measure, so I can't tell you exactly how much), having it at 3 meals and 2 snacks per day, until very recently. I just eliminated milk from 1 snack because my guys are starting to get constipated (I offer diluted prune juice instead). :(

If I were you I'd see what your ped recommends, and serve them as much as they want within that range, unless you see any constipation problems. :good:

My pedi said 16-24 oz a day. I had a hard time limiting them to that amount until I started giving sippy cups. They naturally started keeping their milk consumption between that amount. I also give milk separately as a snack. They drink milk or very heavily diluted juice at meals.

    they get between 16 & 24 oz a day, just like PP's....
I give them 2 sippy cups a day with milk, breakfast and dinner.

they get juice w/water for lunch, sometimes i give them choc. milk as a snack in between meals.

Interesting that you guys have heard 16-24, that makes me feel better. My pedi said no more than 16 ounces (and I have small little ones too). They get a sippy when they wake up with about 5, a big sippy at lunch (or really a little before lunch) and a sippy at dinner (when they get home while I am preparing dinner) so they are probably getting a little more than they should.
